Several sundays ago I was heading to Lancaster Pa for a soccer tournament at 6 am on the turnpike. On the way home after the tournament was cancelled I put on waze and was cruising maybe 80MPH when out of my rearview I see a car FAST approaching. Audi RS5 Going easily over 100 I line up behind him and we are cruising on a completely deserted road.
A few miles up the road we are passing a truck when a BMW M6 pulls up behind us and then around us. Road clears up and the 3 if us are flying down the highway at a good clip.
I get an alert on my waze of Police ahead in 2 miles. I slow down and flash the others to do the same.
About 1/3 mile from the cop my escort goes off.
We three pass the officer and continue on our way driving at a brisk pace.

There is no way that at the speed we were cruising I could have slowed down enough for us not to get tagged by the cop when my escort went off. There is no doubt Waze saved us all a very expensive set of tickets.

Please save your consternation over speeding on a public highway. It was 6 AM sunday morning and we literally went 15 miles without seeing another car. Your car will hit 100 in 10 seconds and from 60 in less. Just saying that driving with an app like Waze could really help you out in a situation

Waze app downloaded

And Little Green. If people here are uptight about speeding, I think they bought the wrong car. I've driven the PA turnpike a few times. It's made for movin'.

Try the style that sits in the CD holder. Most people I know use them after trying a bunch of solutions. Mountek makes a good one with or without magnets depending on how you wish to attach your phone.

Agree with all the above on the utility of Waze for speedtraps, but only in areas with lots of users.

Voice warnings can be adjusted so you hear nothing, only alerts, or everything including turn by turn.

I keep mine exclusively in the Elvis voice!

PS- do I really need an alert for rain though???

Psymon, on my system (Pioneer AVH receiver) I plug my iphone into receiver using the USB cable, which provides power and a direct iPod connection. The phone also connects via bluetooth automatically every time I get in. I can use iPod or Bluetooth to play music. The telephone part connects via Bluetooth. If I'm listening to FM, Waze will interject via Bluetooth as if the phone is making a call and give me the alert.

the "Hey Siri" function is also extremely useful and makes things almost totally hands free.
