So I've had my 2007 991.1 C4S for two weeks and its been great. Have taken friends on rides and even let a few drive it a bit. Previous car was a CTS-V and the 911 is much more of a drivers involved car. I don't miss the power of the V at all. Now I get dive bombed by all manners of Accords, Altimas, Camrys, and other types that love to speed up behind me and then they have to get in front of me, hell or high water. I'm not racing or egging anyone on either. I guess they think I'm a dick since I have a Porsche and they don't. Anyhow its running great, I do have a faint coolant smell but I think thats from the overflow tank puking a bit out due to overfilling or air in the system after the water pump was changed. Its not CPO, but I did get a 60 day warranty from the dealer to cover thinks like that. THe tank is staying at the min level when cold so I don't see it losing any coolant, but I keep an eye on it. I'll have to do the brakes soon, but I know that when I bought it. If I told people that it was new they would believe me, its past life was a garage queen and thats the life it gets from me too.

So at 51 and finally getting my first P car I'm quite happy. Growing up in WV let's just say that all I even saw there were beat up 914's and a fat girl in my class had her dad buy her a 924. 911's were only on posters and on TV.

Congrats! Huge fan of the 4S (obviously). Drive as much as possible diring the warranty period and just make sure all the bugs are sorted out in the early days (and properly!)

I get faint coolant smell too. Though, right after I purchased (used) the '06 from Sonnen it gushed coolant from underbody on to my garage floor: turns out hose came loose. Dealer fixed, even without warranty.

I watch coolant level like a hawk (oil level too, of course). Faint smell getting less noticeable thankfully.

Came from Prius - which I love for commuting (and 996 in my bachelor days). But, yeah, 4S... pure joy.

I did not smell it on the test drive or the day I took it home, the day after that I checked the coolant level when warm, but not cold, I added a bit of distilled water to bring it up to the max line. So I've been driving it hard on the back roads and looked at it right after, the reservoir tank was all the way filled....so it may have puked a bit out, the drain line for the overflow goes right down to where the mufflers are...anyhow, being an **** engineer I will check it each time before a drive and if I see the level go down I have more than a month left to get it fixed. No big deal.

It could be a crack in the tank as well. Theyre not the strongest material. Keep an eye on the level. Replacing the tank was not easy. A diy but takes some time.

Just finished my 4th week and its still the best car purchase i have ever made. Bought it in TN, flew down to pick it up and drove the 700 miles home. That was really cool way to get to know the car. Like you, 51 and wanted once since boyhood. I think they stick out to all 10 year olds...i can't tell you how many kids stop and stare. One young fellow was riding his bike with his mom and while staring at the car, drove his bike off the curb. Mom was panicked, but the kid never took his eyes off the car, even after he fell. Both tough and a future Pcar owner i am guessing.

Also notice all kinds of uninvited attention on the roadways too. Wifee laughs and says, "what's up with all the racing around you." I told her i have no idea. Anyway, its great, puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it.

I'll never forget seeing a 2 or 3 year old on his dad's shoulder's on a backroad in Virginia, drove by in the 911 and this kid who looked like he might know about 10 words was just pointing and trying to tell his Dad what was passing by lol.

Pretty sure the coolant smell was from the coolant tank cap not quite sealing. I took it off (cooled down) and could see white residue on the underside of it. Putting it back on I could feel that it was not really sealing all the way, felt like the rubber gasket inside it was a bit worn out and flattened. So I got one (new cap) sent to me from Suncoast, should be here tomorrow. Seeing how its a popular item on their site, I think others have done the same thing at about that time frame. From having Audi's in the past, Ive been down the road of needing a new coolant tank and/or cap after 5 to 7 years. no big deal.

I, too, was 51 when my wife bought her 2011 997.2 S-cab. What a ride! I only get visitation on weekends but that's enough for me.
