Default Commuter 997 - is it possible?

You might even find you love the car so much that you won't want to sell it...ever. Such was the case with 1964 356 I read about. The father bought it new in 64 and sold it to his son in 1968. It has been the son's daily driver ever since, with standard long drives as part of his business. It is just about to turn 1,000,000 miles...yes one million miles. He has rebuilt the engine every 300,000. The longer the owner has had the car the more he loves it. I can't think of a better Porsche relationship to experience.
That is a great post - hence worth re-posting IMO - and antidote to the terribly contagious 'garage queen syndrome'. Also why I don't look at my odometer any more .... In fact I'm looking forward to hitting 300k so I can have Jake Raby build me a 4.2....

I don't agree with a lot of what Johnireland says, but that post was worth re-posting here and, in my opinion, is 100% accurate as far as how I feel. I understand the desire to preserve the car, but if you're not enjoying it, why have it? A former client has a '99 996 cabriolet that is practically new. It only has about 3,300 miles on it and he's the original owner. What the point?

08 C4s - Daily driven to work about 20 miles a day return.

Has a baby seat in the back, and was used for a while for the daily drop off and pickup of the kids from school. Even in the winter, with snow tires.

I have no problem with the people who only drive the car on weekends. However, I have found that one of the biggest strengths of the 911 is that it is a true sports car that CAN also be driven every day, to work, to daycare, to the cottage, to Home Depot, to the grocery store, etc, even in Canadian winters.

I take mine to Costco. Kirkland toilet paper fits in the front boot just fine.

Default Commuter 997 - is it possible?

I seldom drive into our Home Depot lot without seeing at least one other Porsche (911, Boxster, or Cayman, that is ... not counting the Cayennes).

Of course, I take the truck when I need to haul lumber.

The 997 works great for Costco as well. There is a lot more room than some might think.

As a DD, I couldn't ask for more. There isn't a car I would prefer to spend an hour a day in. As far as I am concerned, the only thing better would be if the commute was an hour or two longer! There are days I take the back roads to the coast and back just to spend more time in the seat.

Yeah, a DD 997 is absolutely possible.

Think of it this way. Driving your 997 daily means one less non Porsche on the road. You can help start a trend.
