Default Help Please

I topped off my oil with a third of a quart (it was showing low before, now it is a third) and 5 mins later the check engine light came on.

Car is running smooth, no leaks and engine & oil temperature and pressure are as normal.

Any ideas??

Need more info - was it a warning light or was it a CEL? If CEL what code did it throw? If warning light, which one? There are 7 pages of warning lights in the owner's manual. What model 997?

Go tighten your oil fill cap.

The CEL will clear in several miles. The code will be stored on the computer.

I tried tightening my oil (and gas cap). No joy. Will try to get the code from a Durametric reader. Any other ideas?

You can read/erase some codes from a regular code reader like at autozone etc. I got a cel from a loose oil cap and it didn't go away until I erased the code with a Code reader. Granted it may have cleared itself after many miles of driving but I'm not sure how many. I bet the oil cap is your culprit.

Look for these 2 codes:

P2187 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Idle Range, Bank 1 (RKAT1) - Above Limit
P2189 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Idle Range, Bank 2 (RKAT2) - Above Limit

Possible fault cause
- Incorrect main charge signal
- Intake air system leaking
- Fuel pressure too low
- Volume supply of fuel pump too low
- Mechanical fault in injection valves
- PCV valve leaks
- Cap of oil filler neck leaking
- Leaks in exhaust system
- EVAP canister purge valve mechanically faulty (hangs open)
- EVAP canister purge valve output stage faults
