Ground clearance

I am seriously considering a 997 C4S, turbo, or gts 4 as a daily driver in the Midwest so snow is a winter issue. I currently have a front wheel drive car with a listed ground clearance of 4.9 inches. Never had snow tires and have no issues thus far aside from some nasty ice that immobilize everything. I have seen the above 911s have published ground clearance in the 4.3 to 4.7 range. I am planning on snow tires in the winter. I think that a 4wd 911 will be better n the snow than my current car. Any other thoughts? Can anyone comment on ground clearance? Thanks.

I drove a 996 C4S all year round in the midwest and in the mountains where I live now. I currently drive a 997 TT all year round. Proper winter tires are an absolute "must have" item for safe winter driving. You'll find that an AWD Porsche with proper winter tires is like a billy goat in winter conditions. The things that make them great drivers in the summer still apply in the winter. The only time that ground clearance becomes an issue is if you have more than 5 inches of fresh snow on the ground. On those days, I work from home or take my wife's SUV!

I drive a 4S Cab year round in Canadian winters. On really big snow days I take my pickup but otherwise I use the 4S as often as possible. Invest in a 3M wrap for the entire car if they use sand or gravel on the roads where you live. Have fun.
