Default 997 door speaker mounting plates

Since there wasn't much information on speaker replacement I just wanted to post a FYI for those who are considering tackling the project. The end goal was to replace the OEM speakers without something, anything that didn't suck. I also didn't want to add a ton of weight.

I went with the Focal 2-way Integration series because of the built in crossovers. The OEM speaker hole will take up to an 8" speaker, the Focals are marketed as 6.5", but are really closer to 6.75".

The entire process was relatively easy:

1. remove door panel
2. remove OEM speaker
3. trace OEM speaker cage
4. cut, sand, spray paint MDF
5. mount new speaker
6. mount your new mounting plate
7. connect wires

I was rushing to get home, so I didn't take as much time as I should have on the drill press

I've been thinking about doing a similar upgrade in my '07 997 but looking at the Dynaudio 8" 3-way system. In my case I'd need extra amplification.

A couple of questions:

1) Do you have the factory Bose system?

2) Are you putting the tweeter in the door or up in the dash location?

3) Are you adding Dynamat or other sound treatment to the doors? I haven't had my door panels off yet and am wondering if it's possible to get the factory moisture barrier sealed back up without compromising it's effectiveness.

1. non-bose
2. yes
3. I thought about it, but I didn't want to add additional weight. You might want to consider it, depending on your end goals.
