Love the 4S but of course I'm biased. Don't hesitate to swap out the PCM. Aftermarket head units like Pioneer or Alpine offer superior Nav, and interface plus you also get bluetooth. BUT make sure you get it installed at a shop that specializes in high end cars. Also know that if you want to improve the sound over the Bose system you can't do it unless you bypass the entire Bose system. Something to do with the Bose BUS. I ended up with a $5K install including new amp, speakers (used OEM grills so everything looks stock), head unit, acoustic tiles in the doors. and the sound is amazing. Great for long road trips with the top down...once the novelty of hearing that flat-6 wears off after about 500 miles. Sometimes it's nice to listen to music.
Also, hold onto your PCM for resale.
I agree though. Who can sleep in these cars? And, Powderzone, do you really get used to hearing the flat-6? I never tire of it.
Ha, not really! The flat 6 wail is intoxicating! The $5K audio upgrade is really just a fancy nav upgrade. I rarely look at my instrument cluster and tend to shift based on sound and feel instead. Having a cab just intensifies the experience.
Yep, I really dig the lobsters too. My favorite wheel actually - though the 19" Turbo is a close second. SportDesign not too bad either.
Here's another pic, plus one more of the interior. Look closely and you'll see some wear, as expected with 81K miles, around ignition and light switch. Going to replace those with Suncoast parts. As requested I'll do before/after.
As for the Q: Who can sleep in these cars? A: My wife. Even when rally car driving! I think she's narcoleptic. Bonus: never having to worry about back seat driver!
Thanks for all the comments, and welcomes.
Looking forward to hitting up some of the Bay Area meets and events!

Also, thanks for suggestions on head unit. In some ways wish I didn't have upgraded Bose - sounds like it will cost more to put an Alpine or Pioneer in there. For now, I'm burning MP3 CDs, feels like 1995 all over again.

Stunning. Looks like it was just detailed, paint = glass. I thought people were who originally optioned Slate Grey on the 997 were crazy (given the price)... maybe not. How do you like Targa feature itself?

The pic is from the day I picked it up from the dealer: CPO 2008 with 19K miles, Tiptronic, full leather, sport chrono plus, adaptive spot seats, bluetooth & iPod connectivity. I was hooked after the test drive.
The glass top is great when closed: it ends up being a glass cockpit, letting in so much light and clarity inside. With windows and glass roof open it feels almost like a cab (I test drove two cabs before deciding to get the Targa), without sacrificing the lines like hapens when you close the top on a cab.
The best feature is the hatchback: so convenient to get stuff in and out. I drove it to the airport this weekend and getting a couple of carry-ons and camera bag in and out was a piece of cake.
