What do the prior service records indicate? how frequent were the oil changes done and at what mileage? any over heating incidents? how about electrical issues/repairs, etc... If all of these check out then have a compression test done and have the panels checked with a paint meter. Of course, if there are zero service records then I'd consider setting aside an extra $25K to rebuild the engine JIC. Also... where was the car driven? Carfax should provide those details as to where it was registered. Seems that colder weather cars may need more scrutiny per Flat6. I'd drain all the oil and inspect the sump with a bore scope through the drain plug for metal debris. Also remove the spark plugs and bore scope the cylinders. You're rolling the dice so the more PPI done upfront the less you'll likely pay post purchase. GL and keep us posted.

Done deal...I'm a new Porsche owner! I took it to my mechanic and here's what he found:

Clutch is not slipping, just some hot spots and RMS is not leaking.
Brakes are good; just need to flush fluid ($100)
Coil packs are cracking and spark plugs need to be changed ($500)
Rear shocks (PASM) are leaking, but ride feels good ($1300)
Front inner/outer TRE needs to be replaced ($200)

I'm going to do the coil packs, flush/belt & TRE's.

I ended up getting this car for an amazing price...so $1k isn't too bad.

My first 911 had about 150,000 miles on it when I bought it. I drove the **** out of it for nine years and about 35,000 miles. Never let me down (well, one time - a CDI box failure). You can't neglect them like a Honda but if you maintain them and use quality parts they will serve you well.

As to the iPod integration...I've got an '05, I considered several options, finally went with the Tranzit-Blu HF. I don't have an iPod, just an iPhone, and the TBHF handles hands-free phone, GPS directions, and music streaming via bluetooth(phone calls and GPS will interrupt the music, then start playing again when the call or directions are over. It was a fraction of the cost of a Dension and an easy install. As to sat radio, I have Spotify premium, for $10/mo I have access to like a million songs, albums, and can create playlists at will. The great thing for me, as I'm on ATT and don't have unlimited data, is that my playlists can be synced offline, so I can load them from WiFi and stream them in the car without using a single byte of my data plan. A USB-lightning plug cord and cig lighter adapter keeps my iPhone charged while I'm driving.
