It's a nice write up, by my favorite auto journalist.

Meh,

For me, he's certainly knowledgeable, but a bit self-absorbed. It must be that I'm envious of his job.

Great article, though I really wish all the auto journalists out there would drop the 0-60 publishing for some other metric; it just feeds the manufacturers quest for a number not a driving experience.

Here is what I wonder, in a 0-60, or more likely 5-60 face off of PDK vs manual... which is faster with NO launch control?

PDK will be faster... Because you need to do a 1-2 up shift ... Now in perhaps the more likely/common pulls from say 40 - 60 on a curvy street, I don't think the manual is going to be at much disadvantage... If the person is already in second haha...

Heck, I am almost certainly quicker in my 2/3 shift than my 1/2 shift, simply because I do that shift aggressively much more often. I won't be anywhere near PDK speed in 1/2 shifts so I have no doubt my manual c4s is couple tenths or bit more behind PDK car. And personally I'm fine with that!
