Windshield Replaced, GPS Down....

Windshield Replaced, GPS Down....
Ok, so from a prior post, I mentioned that Safelite was replacing my 997.1 windshield with an OEM replacement, not aftermarket. I watched the guy perform the window 'surgery' and he was meticulous, did not cut into the paint, and replaced with a flawless new windshield. No wind noise, no rattles, everything great...
I then noticed the GPS was out of whack, showing me about 50 miles from where I actually was, and at some points, driving in the Atlantic Ocean.
Doing a forum search, I found the GPS antenna connector wire with the oval tip and it was indeed unplugged. I plugged this wire into the blue terminal above the passenger side air filter and the GPS screen showed the navigation 'rebooting'. Once rebooted, it is still showing me about 50 miles off where I am. I drove around for the afternoon which did not correct the problem. I also ejected the DVD and reinserted it, but it did not help. The Safelite guy didn't seem to know what else to do either.
Does anyone have any suggestions, the GPS was working fine prior to the windshield reinstall. Is there another plug that I may be missing?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

No other things out of whack, just the Maps/GPS. I did pull the fuse for an hour or so, put it back, and the GPS is still way off location-wise. Is there only one antenna wire (the round tip going into the blue terminal) or am I missing another connection?

Exact same thing happened to me last month after a Safelite OEM windscreen replacement. The GPS connector on the coax wire will actually go on 180 degrees out and GPS maps will work till the slightest bump and then falls off. You should not be able to reach under and pull it off if installed correctly with the clip engaged. Safelite installed mine incorrectly and it fell off. Look closely to make sure he didn't bend the center conductor on the cable when installing too.

The only solution is to take the GPS antenna off and look closely on the coax center pin. I had to buy a new GPS antenna replacement, and charged safelite for the cost (around $100).

This is precisely why I opted to go with the glass man the local Porsche dealer uses--not SAFELIGHT. Although Safelight does a very nice job, I had heard enough horror stories within this forum to want to avoid the nightmares.
My guy in Santa Barbara did it correctly the first time, and with no issues, and with factory glass--not one of the several aftermarket glass makers available to every thrifty insurance company today.

Facing the front of the car, pop the hood and remove the plastic trim covering the battery compartment. There are two cables in the top left area near the cabin filter. Make sure they're all plugged in.

Problem resolved! Seeing how others have experienced this same issue, I thought I'd share what I had to do:
1) The coaxial pin on the GPS antenna cable that was not plugged back in by Safelite was luckily undamaged, but I did check per Sand8's advice. Here is what it should look like if undamaged:
2) This cable needs to be plugged all the way into the blue terminal that is on top of the passenger side air filter. It is not easy to see or get at, so using a compact mirror is very helpful. The following picture shows the cable being properly plugged into the terminal (and is a mirror reflection). Note that the angle needs to be correct, and the plug needs to be firmly pushed in. I initially did not have the pin pushed all the way in, so the antenna was not working properly after my first attempt.
3) Once this is done, pull out the red '10' fuse pin that controls the PCM in the fuse-box next to the clutch pedal. I kept the fuse pin out for about 1 hour before replugging it; not sure if it was necessary for the entire hour but that's what I did.
4) Once the fuse pin was replugged, the GPS was still showing zero satellites. I had to drive for about 20 yards before 2, then 5, then all satellites appeared on the navigation status screen. At this point, the map location was finally pin-point accurate!
Hope this helps the next person that has this issue!

great post, can you repost pictures+ recommendations
@ gripshifter, thanks for the great post! I am about to go through a windshield replacement here in Northern Cal on my 2006 C4S with GPS, rain sensors, antenna, & tinted. For some reason, your pics aren't visible to me. Can you repost or send to me via a PM?
Also, for anyone with experience in the S.F. Bay Area in California, I welcome any recommendations for a proven good windshield replacement outfit...either Porsche Dealer or other outfit. I am willing to drive all the up to Marin County, as far down as Monterey/ Carmel, or east to the Livermore area. I have looked around and was not impressed by the national chains.....mostly staffed by younger guys more accustomed to replacing windshields on rice-rockets and SUVs. Not one guy I spoke with had ever worked on a Porsche!!!
Thanks!

If in NorCAl, which Safelite shop did you go to? I understand quality can vary depending on which shop is used. Thanks!
