You gave your car a hickey.

Where did you find an interior surface smooth enough for a suction cup to work? Any cleaning recommendations would depend on the material affected. More information please.

Vinyl. Pt your exactly right. Gave the car a hickey. The phone holder had a suction cup together with a sticky material. Stuck it on the glove box. It eventually fell after a few months, got tired with it and removed totally. Now the hickey is f...ing bothering me.. Vinyl material is not totally smooth.

I don't like putting any chemicals on my dash, particularly if silicone based. But since you have to how about a reputable cleaner such as this:

That would bother the crap out of me, too. Good luck with getting it fixed. Oh, and don't do that again...

It is not a surface mark rather an indentation on the dash. The suction caused what seemed to be a flattening of the surface. The dash has "veins" which simehow got flattened

Maybe a little heat from a hair dryer - but be careful with it.

I read about the heat treatment, jh, and would like to read more on it. Dont want to turn our having a bigger problem. From a small indentation to a big burn mark, hahaha i would slap myself if that happens. But seriously, i read heat was an effective solution, except i dont know how much.....

I wouldn't use a heat gun but a hair dryer shouldn't get too hot - move it back and forth and don't let the dryer touch the vinyl.

I can see sticking one on the dash of a beater car but on a 997 just suction the phone holder on the windshield. Works well for me.

Just to share, after the evap replacement on my w140 there were two indentations caused by whatever heavy that lean on the dash while removed. I complained to the shop and they said easy to fix. The tech just had a lighter to heat up the area and walhhhh. Indentation gone....
