Default DIY Brake Job Gone Wrong

Hi All, purchased all the parts including pads, rotors, anti-squeal pads and sensors and everything was proceeding smoothly and quickly, but then...the anti-squeal plate was being removed and the upper larger aluminum fitting of the anti-squeal plate is stuck in place. The fitting is set in the caliper and rusted in place. The anti-squeal plate has been removed along with the lower fitting.

Please provide any recommendations in connection with how the rusted and stuck fitting would be removed. Weekend brake project = free ticket to hell. Help is great appreciated and thanks in advance.

Any chance you could post a picture of what you are talking about?

As Sniff said a pic or two would help, but it sounds like you will need to remove the caliper completely to get the anti-squeal plate "disk" out of the caliper. Just guessing based upon your description of the problem.

It's likely you'll have to remove the caliper but try this first.

This Aluminum nub that's stuck inside your caliper piston has a hole in the center. This hole is where it's riveted to the anti-squeal plate.

Find a screw that is a tight fit in that hole (probably a 1" drywall screw). Grab the screw sideways in a pair of vise grips. screw the screw into the hole in the aluminum nub. Use the vise grips or a supplementary screw driver to lever the nub out.

Be careful not to damage the rubber baffles around the piston etc.

Thank you for the replies. I will c clamp the piston, tap the disk, ratchet in a small bolt and this should hopefully pop out the disk.
