(2005 997.1 C2 6MT)

so I finally got the car out of the shop last thursday, then had family vacation sun-Thurs... got home tonight, fired up the car to go get some Chinese food...

boom, P0011 CEL/"visit workshop"

cam over-advance or system performance, bank 1.... same bank that got a new cam sensor a week ago...


drives fine, feels snappy, no odd vibrations or imbalances...



shut-off and re-started twice on the way home (food, fuel)...

seriously contemplating clearing the code and driving it to Denver tomorrow (as planned) since I'm more likely to find a good shop out there to fix it anyway!

 

I had a similar code thrown, P0016, and it was a faulty variocam solenoid in bank 1. I cleared it several times and it always came back as a different code in that code "range". Think I got your code aswell. Hope that helps!

 

I cleared the CEL and it hasn't come back yet... after 5 restarts and 50 miles or so. I wish I had a better understanding of the vario-cam mechanism (in BMW world this is a VANOS failure and you can live with it almost indefinitely, annoying, but won't damage anything until you have time to swap the unit).

 

1050miles, 2.5 days, no recurrence.

gonna call it a fluke.
