Question Tracking down a humm in the engine bay

Hi everyone,

I replaced the alternator starter harness two weeks ago and today noticed a humm coming from the engine bay. I can't hear it while driving but noticed it while idling the car and letting it cool down today. While driving this morning I thought I could hear a very faint high pitched whine but could not locate it while driving. After removing the airbox I could hear the humm from somewhere near the generator or behind it closer to the starter. I removed the serpentine belt and noticed the generator would not turn as freely as the other devices powered by the serpentine belt.

Any ideas what might be the issue? It's my daily driver this week and I'd really like to get ahead of the issue before it becomes a problem.

THANK YOU for any ideas.

Lance

Found the vibration on the idler pulley hanging off the generator. Will replace all three idlers. Car is parked until parts arrive. Thanks everyone!
