Default Fan on?

997 cab did something different today. Just parked the car in the garage (after 20 min ride), turned car off, went back in the garage 10 mins later and all I hear is the fan on? What is it doing? Is this normal? Oil temp still shows 200

My 209 4S cab does the same thing. My advise.... have a beer while the fan cools the engine down.

2005 C2S

My fan cuts on and off for 30 minutes after I park.

Oil temp 225 when I shut her down.

93 degrees here in Texas today.

She's black. No garage. (I know, I know, am looking for a house with a garage as we speak!)

My experience says it's normal. She's working as she should.

Normal behaviour. Not only for engine heat now that water pump is not functioning but also all the heat from the mufflers rising to the top of the engine.
Dependent on how hard it is driven, traffic conditions and outside temperature while driving. Not related to sun on the car. I would assume more likely to happen in the garage than outside because of less air flow.

I never hear the fan on mine, even after some hard driving in hot SoCal weather.
Would it throw a code of some sort if the fan wasn't operational?
If not is there any way to check it?
Thanks

It does take some minutes to activate when the temperature is high enough. It can cycle off and on a few times.
Mine usually does it in summer when I have been stuck in traffic.
Apparently a message will appear on the dash if the fan fails:

My fan comes on regularly especially in the summer time. When I get home I would just open the trunk and let the engine compartment cool down for at least 30 minutes when the car is in the garage. I have been doing this for the last 5 years and no issue at all.

All normal. I just wish the newer (even 991 doesn't have) ones had a recirculating electric pump like my wife's '08 VW Touareg. It continues to circulate the water for up to 2 minutes after shutdown and run the radiator fans. Not sure if the Cayenne has it or not? I back up a 75' steep driveway to park mine in a hot cinder block garage. The heat build up driving in reverse is added stress under the car/engine compartment. So my fan comes on fairly regularly on a hot day. I always lift the spoiler to "aid in cooling". Any thoughts? Thx.

It's an interesting conundrum...the fan is not an exhaust fan but it blows air into the engine compartment. Some folks advocate opening the hood to let the hot air out (fan doesn't run with hood open) but that allows residual heat from exhaust system to escape up and over the engine probably adding more heat soak. At least with the fan blowing the exhaust system heat is blown down and away from the engine. I've done it both ways - hood open and hood closed. When I open the hood I leave the garage door open and use a floor fan to help get the hot air out. Texas summers can be brutal and add to that parking in a confined garage.

Phoenix summers are brutal as well and I often will open the hatch to let the heat rise out....seems more effective than the small fan pushing air into the engine compartment. Of course my garage is always close to 100 degrees anyway so it may be a draw which more effectively dissipates the heat soak!

i also leave engine lid open after driving for 1/2 hr or more with garage door open. Mailman asked me why my lid is always open on car. If i don't open lid, fan comes on many times as normal, 10-20 minutes after car is stopped.
