Default wet dash?

So i got the car windows tinted the other day and noticed a my dash is discolored. I had an apt at the dealership for low coolant so i brought i over. they said the coolant wasnt leaking but just needed to be topped off after 7 years.

they said the dash looks like more of a weather thing. they said either that or someone left a drink on the dash in the sun. My window tint place said the dash does get wet when the tint the front windshield but no where near this wet. I honestly don't remember but with my windshield tinted i noticed the dash.

The car had the carbon fiber dash pieces replaced due to warping. The car is CPO so this dealership calls PCNA. PCNA wants me to roll the dice. Dealer said they will put a new dash in and send this one to germany. If Porsche determines it isn't a defect then i'm paying for it.

Anyone have this before? It looks like moisture accumulated at air vent and air bag passenger side. here is a picture

thanks,
sid

I saw a very similar post/thread on here or 6speed recently. Same situation; tint installed and dash damaged. Have a search and see what they found.

Saw that same thread. I won't tint my windows again after seeing how it's done and I don't like the results around the dot matrix. But, I'd expect to have seen a thread where this occurred to a door panel or rear quarter if this could happen from the solution. Maybe the dash has a different treatment or the lube just soaks in rather than running off.

I can't imagine that being caused by anything other then standing water for sometime.

Hell of a roll of the dice though with the dash prices.

Gee, how very generous of them . If the leather isn't rotted or warped I would check with a high-end trim shop. They might be able to clean and re-dye it. Frankly I would do anything I could to avoid having anyone--especially the dealer--remove the dash. I'd be afraid it would squeak and rattle forever after.

FWIW I had my windows tinted (not the windshield though, but I have full leather trim everywhere below all the side windows front and back) and there was no damage to anything. There weren't even bubbles, not even in the beginning, and you can't see where it's gone over the dot matrix. It comes down to the skill of the installer.

Porsche dash leather is pretty unique. It's dried and cured. Not like the rest of the car; doors and seats. Looks like it was damaged from the tint installer's liquid-solvent-soap solution. Got into the seams/stitches, and raised it.

yeah the whole rolling the dice thing is un-nerving. the tint guys said they laid a towel down and do all the clear bras for the porsche dealership. they are pretty well known and do high end cars. they said they never seen that before.

either ways a little bit of soap and water used for window tint shouldn't cause that level of damage IMHO. standing water, i can see it but a little that comes out of a spray bottle???

dealer said most of the times germany will be ok but there is a risk. High end shops don't want to repair the dash unless it is removed. they are scared about the airbag so therefore they want to wrap the entire dash.

thanks for the input guys!
