Default So I just drove a brand new 991 C4S Cabrio

A business associate of my dad's stopped by with his news 991 and knowing I'm a P-car guy, he threw me the keys.

Normally, I'd regress, but I just couldn't say no to this one.

Now I know we all have reservations for the 991 here on the 997 forum, but all I gotta say is wow!

Aside from Porsche screwing around with the headlight shape again (I guess that they didn't learn from the 996... and I used to drive a 996 so I'm not hating on the car), the car is awesome!

I like the 991 platform (I really do!).

But if I were to upgrade, it would be to a turbo/gt3 only. Everything else would seem more like a "side-grade" to me (and yes, I've spent the day driving an S/4S at Sonoma...didn't get that wow factor).

I like the 991, don't really see anything wrong with it at all, even the headlights. However, let's face it, the 997 is much better value.

Two great cars, but for a DIY kind go guy like me, my 997.2 is great! Relatively easy for normal maintenance items!

test drove a 991C2S. I think it looks better IMO but was too tame for me. Keeping my 997.1 C2S =)

997 to me is the modern 993.

Love the 991 in white/silver/black with aerokit/ducktail spoiler. When it's not optioned up or a poor color choice it looks like bloated mass production.

I like how the 991 looks, inside and out, and how it drives. For me it's not worth the 50 grand it would take for me to upgrade from my '05 to a used '12/13. Those are still depreciating a lot faster than mine, so maybe in another couple years. If I can find a stick that is. No way I would even think of owning a 911 with an automatic. Drove a PDK. Yeah it can shift faster than I can. Still no thank you.

To the untrained eye the headlights look the same! Comparing the 991 headlights to the 996 is errr... a bit extreme. The 991's are really not that different other that bulging out a bit from the 997. Overall a great car but BIGGER. IMO, the 981 is the way to go. Just sayin'!...

I have not driven the 991 yet ( only sat in one at the dealer showroom). The 911 always gets incrementally better with each new version. One thing that did seem strange to me with the 991, though, is how I feel like I am sitting on the floor. I am more comfortable with the relatively upright sitting positon in the 997. Also , the view out the front looks quite different. In the 997 I am looking a bit down the front hood. In the 991, I am mostly seeing the two front fenders....reminds me somewhat of the view out of an LMP prototype.

I think the ops comment comes from looking at the headlights total shape. Looking at it straight fromthe front does not lookmtoo diff from the 997s but if you look at the shape of the thing ipand its clear plastic cover, it looks a vit odd. Look at it from the side and it looks funny....give the side view less than attractive look

Yeah, I guess from a couple of angles they are different, but nothing like the fried eggs of the 996 :-D

Let's just say as a novice I had a very hard time telling them apart from just the front angle (it's easy from the back). At first I thought the right one was the 997....then the left.....then the right.....

I agree with Zeus993....the headlight is nowhere near the same deviation as the 996 was. Same fundamental shape between these two.
