Default Cleaning Engine

I know this was a thread at one time, but I can't find the thread. I want to clean my engine, as I have with all my other cars I've has in the past. Decreases, and water!
What is the risk on the 997? I've restored many cars in my lifetime, but this car seems to be different, obviously.

P21S Total Car Wash is the only way to go for your engine! Easy to use and apply! Safe for all components and will make your engine look spotless and restored! My Ferrari and Lambo guys put me on to this!

Being conservative I wouldn't do this--the downside is pretty high.
