I've got a 997 C2S. 65 mph in 6th gear showed 2500 rpm on my way to the golf course this morning.

thanks
Are you sure you are in 6th and not in 4th gear? If you are actually seeing these revs in 6th then I think your clutch is slipping or your tach is not accurate. I would suspect the former.

Engine rpm is function of final drive ratio and transmission gearing. It is not subject to being wrong as in "a problem." OP's #s at 60 mph seem high to me. I seem to recall 2500 or so. I vote with the guy who thinks he is in the wrong gear. Easy to do if you are not paying attention.

Mine is 997.1 C2S - 6spd.

6th gear
- 2400rpm = 60mph
- 2700rpm = 70mph

5th gear
- 2800rpm = 60mph
- 3300rpm = 70mph

I just checked those revs yesterday while I was out. Those #'s are fairly close to accurate.

OP needs to check his #'s again and if accurate something is amiss.

Took a few samples for you earlier today. As soon as I got onto the highway, 72mph, 6th gear 2,900rpm -- straight away highway.

Later that afternoon, exactly the same thing so roughly 2,900rpm in 6th gear at 72mph.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am due for a major service, spark plugs, belt, etc. Would this have any impact on the rev's?

No

To be clear here: You have a six speed manual trans, with a clutch pedal that you press to shift gears, and you shift past 4... up and right to 5th...then down to 6th... and you report your RPMs to be ___________ @ ___________ MPH.

In your opening post, you said the RPM is between 3000 and 3500.

What is it exactly? Does it fluctuate as you hold speed? Does the engine run and sound fine otherwise?

People without the problem have reporting back specifics. Please do the same, and don't be insulted by stupid questions.

.

3000 RPM @ 75 mph is what I get, steady cruising on the highway in 6th. I'm sure as I often set my cruise control at 75 to keep me from doing 95!

correct, same here, 3k rpm on 6th gear is 75mph.
3k rpm pn 3rd gear is 40mph.

if you get lower speed than that - then it means previous owner replaced final drive for better acceleration.

I'll throw out another data point from my '06 C4S with the stock 19" rims. This morning I verified my speed was exactly 77mph at 3000 rpm in 6th gear on a perfectly flat (and level) road.

Flat and level is relevant when speaking of auto trans. In a true manual, it doesn't matter.

I like not having to drop down a gear to pass someone on the highway, 6th gear feels right on point to me.
