Question: Is there any protection from water going into the air intake with this ducktail. It just seems wrong to have no protection from the elements through the ducktail open grills.

As a point of reference, the grills on the Porsche (OEM) Ducktail are not protected either.

We now have the 996 duck tail available as well as the 996 Speedster clam shell.
Here are a few pictures:

This presupposes that the car is driven in the rain!

Seriously though, aesthetics aside, does anyone know how this ducktail, with or without an accompanying front lip, impacts the balance of the car at high speed? Or, put another way, would you be trading the stability (achieved through a number of production modifications over the years) for aesthetics - but maybe if you never go to the track this is unimportant. (And yes, I know the Sports Classic came with a ducktail but I'd like to think PAG did their homework and it is either advantageous or neutral in how it impacts stability.)

Just curious.

GT3Tek has been promising a lip for the 997.2 since 2010. I don't think we will ever see one from them.

Wheeler, you started a thread about a guy who might me willing to make a 997.2 lip. Any progress on that?

I know the offer a Techart and it is very expensive.

I installed a FVD lip and like it, but it is not a poly lip and won't take much abuse. The poly lips are usually reasonable enough cost wise to replace it if it becomes damages after a couple of years.

Ya, I think something LIKE the FVD lip in poly would be the ticket!! I emailed Gtek, no response yet. Poly is a much different and more expensive animal up front to get molds made, etc. Again, I would think FVD could sell a bunch of them in Poly.

The Sharkwerks I don't care for, it's sort of pointy and euro looking...vs squared off and GT3 looking.

The guy that I posted the thread about, that was willing to make them, was looking for some support in numbers to justify laying them up. I just got pushback from most everyone saying they wanted poly, or didn't like the design (pic was on 996 GT3), or whatever. His price was right, especially for a more rigid unit that would actually offer some solid aero benefits. He got burned by the GT2 guys that all said they wanted one then when he produced them he sold ONE and everyone else disappeared.

I get it that it's a personal thing as far as styling. But my god...SOMEBODY make one already!! Maybe it's the limited numbers of cars in that date range?? I'm about to just go GT3 front bumper and ducktail and be done with it.

I don't think gt3tek will ever get to making a new 997 duck tail. Its been months of waiting, and they still say the moulds will be ready soon.. There aren't even some initial prototype pictures, let alone for sale! Tired of waiting!

I'm glad that I didn't wait and went with another product.

Are you ever going to make a ducktail spoiler for the 997?

they probably got a cease and desist letter from Porsche for patent infringement is my guess. I was on their site and the poly front lower spoiler looks good.
