Default Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix

The Pittsburgh Vintage grand Prix - now in its 32d year. Come join hundreds of your fellow p-car enthusiasts as we again gather on the lawn at Schenley Park to enjoy our cars, the races and above all, the camaraderie that has grown over the years. Now is the time to register and get this event on your calendar.

The PVGP takes place in scenic Schenley Park in the heart of Pittsburgh. This is one of 2 vintage races that occur on public streets in the world, the other being Monaco. It is also a significant charity fundraiser – proceeds are donated through the PVGP to the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School.

This year promises to be the best yet, with some new events taking place, like the Top 10 Peoples’ Choice, a concours open to all registered Porsches. Here are the highlights of the activities to enjoy:

Friday, July 18:

• Weekend kick-off at the Double Wide restaurant in Cranberry Township PA – our local Club (ARPCA) will host the out of town clubs travelling to participate in the PVGP. This is our second annual hosting. There will be plenty of good cheer, at a venue right next to the hotels (where we have club discounts arranged) and turnpike just North of the City. It will also include a nice impromptu gathering of Porsches of all varieties. All local and distant Porsches welcome. Starting at 5 pm to ?

Saturday, July 19th:

• International Car Show on the Golf Course – over 2000 cars on display (Mini is PVGP Marque for 2014)
• ARPCA Catered Tailgate Party (starts at 12:00 Noon - open to all participants who register through the ARPCA website and msr)
• Top 10 Peoples’ Choice Concours (open to all Porsches registered through the ARPCA website and msr)
• Door prizes
• Vintage Racing Time Trails (come see many classic and vintage Porsches and othe great marques participating in the races throughout Schenley Park.)

Sunday, July 20th:

• Porsche Car Show
• ARPCA Catered Picnic (starts at 12:00 Noon - open to all participants who register through the ARPCA website and msr)
• Vintage Car Races

General prices are as follows:

• Saturday or Sunday registration for 1 car and TWO people: $75 (includes parking, door prizes, lunch and soft beverages)
• Additional meal ticket for either day: $15 per person

To Register, go to our Club's website at http://arpca.com/2014/03/pvgp-2014/

See you at the races!

Note: Pre-registration closes Sunday July 13th at 11:59 PM. We may accept a limited number of late registrations (until Friday 12:00PM) but your credit card will be immediately charged and no refunds will be issued. Registrations after this point will be completed on-site at the Porsche Registration Table.

And, even though they're not racing Porsches, please stop by in the paddock at Schenley and visit the High Performance Heroes team. Marine Staff Sergeant Liam Dwyer, who lost a leg to an IED in Afghanistan in 2011, will be driving the #14 AH Sprite and looking to defend last year's Group 2 PVGP win. We're typically in the loop at the far end of the paddock, and the bright blue and neon green car is pretty hard to miss... as is the driver with one leg. You can find more info at http://www.HPHeroes.org or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/High-Performance-Heroes/464636463617590

Sorry for the thread hijack, but these guys warrant our support.

I have never spent any time in Pittsburgh. I raced at the Beaver (lapped the beaver) the first couple of years they opened. Are still operating plus with the cart track?
I bought one of the PVGP watches when Porsche was the marque a few years back.
Does this event have wheel to wheel vintage racing or time trials only?
Sounds like a good event. I am due for a road trip

Thanks, guys, look forward to seeing folks up there. Sgt. Dwyer and teammate Sgt. Pat Brown (who unfortunately won't be able to race at Schenley this year) are truly inspirational and I'm proud to crew for them.

Yes, there's wheel to wheel racing. It's not a 10/10ths circuit, courtesy of stone walls and ravines, but still really cool. And, back to linderpat's original post, it's a great event. There are massive car shows (must have been 150 Porsches last year) and big crowds. And I like Pittsburgh--you'll find some good food, Warhol museum, etc. Wright's Falling Water isn't too far of you're road tripping.

I'd love to join in on the club activities myself (just bought a 997.1) but we're usually running ragged fixing broken race cars--but hey, that's vintage racing!
