Default NOOB question.

I'm considering a 2008 C2 approx 37,@@@ miles. Recent clutch done and in great shape. While inspecting and admiring the interior, I moved the steering wheel "side to side/ left to right" and I heard click sound. There is a slight play side to side to the steering wheel.

Is it normal?

BTW: the ignition was off.

Thanks.

No play in mine. No click sound either. Always do a PPI on any pcar you are buying.

Planning to do PPI but want to make sure I have some prior insight on "findings" if it is considered ab/normal.

Thanks.

If the key was absent then you merely locked the wheel and yes there is play to lock it.

If you locked the wheel, then that's something that happens on pretty much every car. Try the same thing on some other car and see if you get the same symptoms.

Thanks for all the response. The wheel was not locked, key in ignition and wheel was moved side to side with slight play and clicking sound. I'll keep an eye out when I test drive other cars.

You mean the steering column has play in it.... as opposed to the steering wheel?

Could be something simple like a bad damper or it could mean something like a curb was hit and something is broken. A good PPI will tell you.

Steering wheel when moved from left to right (and vice versa) had a faint click sound. Key in ignition but engine not turned on.

I'd be concerned about a clutch job at 37,000 miles.. why was that.

Simple, lousy driver riding it, popping it. So many owners haven't taken the trouble to learn how to properly use a clutch leading to premature wear. It's a skill that is learned just like heel-and toe. It's a bit difficult but with perseverence, can be achieved in a reasonably short

That's is what I was afraid was the reason - which would mean to me, that this lousey driver may have worn out or destroyed other things by misuses or poor maintenance. Make sure the care is fully checked out, especially the drive train.
