Replacement key
I'm closing in on a 911, just found out they don't have the owners manual or extra key. They agree to provide an owners manual, but said they couldn't get the extra key because car has to be registered. That it is on me once I registered vehicle.
Called closest Porsche dealer and they quoted $150 to program but an additional $300 to order. Does this sound right or should I go to another dealership near my area?

When I bought mine, it came with one key and asked about another one. They had to order it and I then got it programmed at another dealer....at no cost to me. I would negotiate the sales price to compensate for your situation.

I had the same issue. Dealer told me that the previous owner had only turned in 1 key. They offered to replace the key free of charge and also gave me a 1 year key replacement insurance in case something goes wrong with the existing keys. Can't beat that! I would not accept a car with only 1 key from a dealer. They are normally very particular if you sell them your car and they ask for all the keys. They should have made sure that they have both keys.

For reference, new key fob heads without the metal blade can be had on eBay for about $175 shipped, sometimes less. Dealer programming and key cutting is in the $100 to $150 range.

You can also upgrade the shell of your old grey remote to the black version, swapping the internals including the RF chip, no dealer programming needed. Search eBay for "Porsche Remote Shell"

Just a data point and not an answer to your question. My 2nd key also has a piece of plastic with a bar code attached by something like a zip tie to the key. Someone told me the bar code identified the key and car combination so if you wanted a spare cut (by your dealer through PAG) you would present the bar code with all the info and that would be that - after you pay them of course. Certainly, they can still make a spare key for you without the bar code but it may require some further verification (not that that would be too hard but PAG, being PAG, would make you pay for ten minutes of their time)
A total of $450 for a new key? I thought it would run about $300 but that is operating on 2009 numbers which is the last time I recall this issue coming up.

I did not think they could code a key without the car. But costs listed above are accurate to me..
I paid ~$150 for the key head from suncoast. A local Ace Hardware was able to cut the key blank for $10.
Being in Chicagoland, I have access to several dealers. All of them wanted about $150 to recode the keys to the car.
