Default First 997 (dumb questions)

- why am I finding it confusing to know when my car is locked or not locked. Previous Audi (press lock on key fob, 1 beep + lights flash). During the day I don't even seen the lights flash on my 911. Anyway to fix this and know the key fob for lock registered with the car?

- If I leave the car with the top down is it possible to get into my front trunk or glove box (key locked)? Will any alarms go off?

- will my car auto-lock if I have it in neutral and idling?

- Don't think my 2006 Cab has TPMS, anyway to add this aftermarket? (I got lazy with having this on my audi)

- is my PCM software upgradable?

- is an aftermarket CAI Box worth it? Downsides/upsides? Looking at this..

I'm sure I'll think of some more questions during owning this 911.

If you buy a "smart top" controller you will be able to raise and lower your top with the key and you can program it to "beep" when you lock the car. Other wise you will not hear a "beep" when you lock the car unless you left something open glove box, door, frunk ect. If alarmed it will go off when attempting to open funk, glove box ect. but I am not sure if it will actually open though.

If you can lock the car with the key then it is registered. Also my 2009 has motion sensing in the alarm not certain if 06 did, but quite possibly. I will let others chime in about the latter questions (I am not certain).

Not sure about convertible specifics but during the day I look at the car to ensure I can see the indicators flash twice when I lock the car. At night it's easier because the cabin lights go off as soon as you lock the car.

You might be able to rig a way for the horn to beep when you lock the car but I guess that would require hacking the car security system which personally I would not ever do.

Or go with Chris's suggestion.

Yeah, '06 has motion sensing inside the vehicle. So once you've successfully locked yourself or kid in the car, the alarm will add to the embarrassment. Great feature. All that technology and no chirp when we lock the car

Looking into smartTOP, seems like it will add the beep on lock and a bunch of other cool features. Still researching if it comes with any downsides/bugs in its software.

As I understand it, you can disable the interior motion sensor by hitting the lock button twice in succession.

For me, since I'm kind of paranoid about locking the car, I check the door handle. If I'm too far from the car to check the door handle when it occurs to me that, maybe, I didn't lock the car, I press the lock button anyway. I think on this car that, if you don't open the doors after you unlock the car, the doors re-lock and the alarm re-arms...I could be wrong about that but I'd have to check the manual. With that said, I see the lights flash and I can usually hear the locks actuate but I can't tell if it's locking or unlocking.

I'm also interested in adding TPMS...can the PCM be reprogrammed to do it (obviously, that would go with buying TPMS) or is it so cost prohibitive, one would be better off getting a 3rd party one that has its own module that you have to plug in or not get it at all?

All 997 cars have an interior alarm. Mine used to go off randonmly so I shut it off. When you hit the door lock button your yellow lights(front and rear) flash twice in quick succesion. If you want to disable the interior alarm while keeping your exterior alarm on, press the lock button twice in relatively quick succesion (maybe a half to a second in between) and the yellow lghts will stay solid yellow for a few seconds. I do this everytime as my alarm would go off at all hours when just set the regular single button alarm

Hope that makes sense

From the manual.

A double horn signal during locking indicates a
defect in the central locking or alarm system.

For TPMS you not only need the sensors in each wheel, you need the control module and receivers in each wheel well, so it would be pretty expensive to retrofit it.

I've tried two. The first was a K&N intake which was garbage, definite loss of power. I now run the Fabspeed and can't really say I notice any performance increase, but I don't notice a loss of performance like I did with the K&N. I'm definitely not ruling out a performance gain, I just can't really notice it.

My Fabspeed kit came with the wrong size rubber mounts, parts of it were used, the heat shield needed trimming, and the intake tube made contact with the lid cooling fan to the point I had to remove some of the fan shroud to be able to close the lid. It looks pretty though and I still have it in the vehicle. Mine was one of the early ones, so they may well have addressed these issues now.

People will go on about how you will be getting hot air from the engine compartment, but that is just an opinion pulled out of the air. I have monitored the intake temp with and without the Fabspeed intake. Once up to speed there is absolutely no difference. At idle and slow speeds there is an increase in intake temp.
