Default Engine serial number

I'm getting my car ready for the summer after this long winter.. Washing, polishing, waxing, etc.

I hooked up my durametric and I noticed the engine number on the durametric is different than my actual number on my engine. Is this typical? Or could my engine have been replaced at some point. I bought the car used without any previous maintenance records.

Any information would be helpful and appreciated.

VIN is available via a query to the DME, but engine number? News to me.

Are you sure you are reading the engine number?

If you want post the read engine number and the one off the engine proper. I think I have the info to interpret the number.

Yes, it displays it on the durametric. Does anyone know if there's matches up?

Also double check that your engine number starts with M97. There was a thread on renntech with a guy whose engine was swapped with a Boxster motor.

Mattyf,

Thanks for posting. Guess my car had a replacment at some point but there's no X, so I assume it's not a rebuild.

Thanks guys! I can always count on rennlisters.

That's if the OP has an "S" . Base 3.6 cars have M96/05 motors.
