Default Anybody ever replaced a Steering Control Module?

I'm attempting at a 997.1 tiptronic button wheel to PDK paddle wheel conversion and need to change the steering wheel control module. I got as far as removing the clock spring and abandoned ship when it looked like I was going to have to remove the cruise, indicator and wiper stalks. Lots of connections and really small screws. I'm mechanically inclined, but I don't want to open a can of worms if this is not a DIY job.

Has anybody ever done this? I have searched high and low and can't find a DIY or any info.

Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

It's not too difficult. If you haven't removed the clock spring, that is held on by 3 plastic tabs. Gently lift up on the tabs to release and slide off. There is one electrical connection that you'll have to unclip from the clock spring. The turn signal and other stalks are all attached together and slide off as one unit. But before you try to slide the stalk assembly off there is a U shaped electrical part that is clipped on top of it that you have to remove. This U shaped part has 2 plastic clips on each side that you can see from underneath. Once those are unclipped, you can lift it straight up. Now you can remove the stalk assembly. It's held in place by a single hex bolt underneath. You don't have to undo that bolt all the way. Just enough so that you can slide the assembly off. The steering wheel controller is attached to the back of the stalk assembly with 5 T8 torx screws. You should be able to see which 5 you need to remove by looking at your new part.

I think it's better to remove the stalk assembly. If you've gotten all the way to that point, then your only one screw away from sliding it off. There are a lot of delicate electrical pins that the steering wheel controller plugs into, and it's much easier to line it up and plug it in with the stalk assembly removed. It looks scary to remove the stalks, but it's really not a big deal.

Thanks Again!! I got the module installed, now I need to get it coded. The horn works, but the paddles don't. Is this normal? I also have a PSM warning that does not seem to want to go away after about a 10min drive.
