Default Why does porsche not require dealers to upgrade software on all pdk cars

The pdk software upgrade is a must. I wonder why dealers do not do it on all 997.2 pdks? It transformed my car's character from cruising to full attack. Its simply better everywhere. And it seems to better at learning. I think more and more owners are realizing the weakness of the first gen pdk due to comparison with the 991. But first gen has upgrade brothers bringin it very close to the latest, all but the cruising and nuetral functions.

Did the dealer do the upgrade under warranty? Did it cost to have them do the upgrade? I hope to have a 997.2 soon with PDK and this is something I'd like to have done.

Thanks

Just dont know if they will do for free or for a fee when out of warranty as it is not a campaign, which is why i ask the question.

What software upgrade is this? Is there a TSB on it?

My car was out of warranty and running on the original software. I had my dealership perform the update this past weekend. I was not charged for the software but they had to charge me for the labor. By the book, I believe it is a 2 hour job (installing, tweaking, testing, etc). I do not know how new the latest software is. The PDK is now much smoother at slow speeds and seems to shift faster when I'm playing harder.

I'm reluctant to have mine updated and my P dealer service depth recommends not to. But if it makes my PDK better, than I should consider it. They say there is no need to. How can I be sure it will improve my transmission? There's no TSB. How does the dealer access it and when was it issued?

braking... can you find out what the exact patch is called? The dealer I am working with has no idea what updates there are to the PDK.

Since there is now another thread talking about an aftermarket PDK reprogram by 1016 industries, I wonder what the differences are, and does it make sense to get the factory firmwear, then possibly later have the other software tweek that?

There is no service bulletin. I didn't call and schedule an appointment for a specific "patch". I was at the dealership and asked them to plug my car into piwis, check my software version, and update it if a newer version was available. It is totally dependent on how old your current software is. Knowing the price of a PDK replacement, there is no way I'll be installing ANY aftermarket transmission software. YMMV.

TSB's are held "close to the vest" throughout the automotive industry.

Service technicians are advised NOT to apprise customers of an existing TSB without the customer first bringing up a issue pertaining to a specific TSB.

Net result, service technicians don't bother wasting their time reviewing, familiarizing themselves with TSBs

Industry should be FORCED to mail ALL TSBs to owners for which they might have pertinence.
