Rim repair question
Am in the process of fixing some curb rash on all my wheels. Have sanded and just put on the Bando. Will sand again tomorrow and get ready for paint
Most guys seem to just tape off the spots they are repairing and paint those. However I have sanded a LOT of the rims (probably about 40k kms on them) and wondered if anyone has just painted most of the rim and then clear coated it rather than trying to paint just the damaged area. There is more of the rim sanded than not!m
Cheers

How are you planning on laying down the paint? Wurth spray paint? I found that using spray paint on wheels well looks.......... What kind of finish are you looking for? Any time I did this I also masked the inside of the rim. You could end up with a paint "line" if you mask the undamaged areas on the wheel face. I never found I could get a factory finish out of a spray bomb. I feel you need a high pressure spray gun hooked up to a compressor to get this perfect.

Feelers are a good idea.
Better one is to keep the wife out of the car but that would disrupt the marital harmony too much!
The rims r off for the winter so its just a good project to refresh the look. Besides that big rash most of it is just wear and tear ie rock chips etc. Not much u can do about that but thanks for the helpful advice!!

+10,000. Someone once said on here, while critiquing a used car, that curb rash is indicative of female PO. As sexist as it is, I don't think women are worse drivers then men, in fact it is statistically proven to be the other way around, I just think that women care less about such things as road rash. For the most part, our wives are not on these forums finding methods to detail the battery compartment and comparing the molecular structure of ATE vs. Pentosin. For the most part, it's just a guy thing.
Women look at things holistically, whereas men tend to compartmentalize our thoughts and observations. We'll take a quick look at a car and say "Gallardo!" then quickly hone in.. Superleggera! Lime Green! Mudflaps! 19"? Sooty Tailpipe! Road Rash! Oxidation! Whereas a woman might just think "Cool"!

^^ probably right
Wasn't too happy obviously when it happened but she does like driving the car when she goes out with her girlfriends so can't sweat the small stuff in life
It was surprising how many small nicks etc from rocks there was. Normal driving, a few track days, just takes its toll over time. The curbing got me motivated to fix it so I am just tackling all the other day to day damage

This kind of repair does take some skill. Just remember to take your time. Shake those spray bombs....The most frustrating part is the clear cote. If you screw it up, break out the lacquer thinner and start over. It's not too late to take them to a refinisher. That's a whole other conversation.
