I got it out this morning. Heated it and punched it out. I would like to get the same stud but I am having a heck of a time trying to find one. I'll try some local muffler shops tomorrow but I have a feeling I'll be calling my dealer.

Anybody know if this stud has a part number?

If it is graded, it has to reach a minimum standard rating no matter where it is made.
While it might be nice to think this way it is not always true. I believe the Chinese bolt standard is does it sink in water?

cjjones, If you go to a dealer just have them look the part up on their screen. Takes the guesswork out.

Try here: http://www.fastenal.com

And no luck on an OEM part number. The latest PET manual shows the bolt attached to the catalytic converters, not a separate part number.

edit: I take that back, 977.1 uses a separate bolt, 997.2 has the bolt integrated into the header/cat

997.1: headers bolt to cats, M8 lock nut (999.084.046.02) and M8x30 screw (900.075.365.02), clamping sleeve to side mufflers
997.2: headers and cats are integrated and bolt to center muffler (no separate part number for bolt) and uses M8 hex nut (900.910.003.03), and then clamping sleeve to side mufflers

Yes I did. Went to my dealer to pick up my "stud" and it turned out to be a regular M8 bolt. They said that the part number for the bolt in question was the correct part number and I concurred. Thankfully they refunded me and I went to a local hardware store and got a M8 for $.89 instead of $4.70.

I was contemplating this diy on my 997.2 with the Sharkwerks x pipe as well. Did you remove the bumper or is there ample room to get the center muffler off without having to take the bumper off?

I did take the bumper off. Not much to it. It can be done without taking it off though.

Agreed that there is no need to remove the bumper unless your hands are too large. I've done the change twice now. The top bolts are a pain in the **** to take off but patience and a combination of an open-ended wrench (to hold the back of the passenger side top bolt) and a shorter handled socket wrench does the trick for me. A long handled socket has trouble having enough room to move on the driver side. Skinny hands help.
