DIY Engine Mounts

This was pretty easy. Installed the Function First engine mounts and anyone can do this.
1. Remove the airbox so you have access to the engine mounts.
2. Securely jack up car enough so you can get under it.
3. Use a floor jack and use wood or something to disperse the engine weight. I used 18 inch long 6 x 8's. Jack up the engine just enough to take the weight off of the mounts. You can tell by going underneath and feeling the bottom of the mount and the carrier (grab the 18mm nut you are about to remove) - it will have some play when the weight is supported by the jack.
4. Use a deep 18mm socket and from below remove the nut connecting the bottom of the mount to the carrier. I used liquid wrench and they came off without issue.
5. Go into the engine compartment and remove the two 13mm bolts that hold each of the mounts to the chassis. I opted to do one mount at a time because I did not want to chance a mishap with both mounts removed.
6. With both 13mm bolts removed take out the old mount and instert the new mount. They go in the same way they came out. Torque the 13mm bolts to 17 ftlbs and torque the 18mm bolts to the carrier to 63 ftlbs.
7. Only one cigar needed.

Good question. Most of the mods I do are done because this is one of my hobbies. There is no fiscal sense – I simply enjoy doing the work. About 18 months when my car was at the P-dealer they told me one of my mounts was bad and they replaced them. The faulty mount caused my clutch and slave cylinder to go prematurely. The clutch had already been done but for the convenience I let he dealer replace my engine mounts. If I had the luxury of time I would have opted out of the stock hydraulic mounts since they can be prone to failure.
A few months ago I installed the Function First transmission bushing and I liked it. I also added the Numeric Racing shifter and cables. My shifts were dramatically crisper. So when FF came out with the engine mounts I figured I’d give them a try; I did not think they would add any further cabin noise since I’ve also added a full Fabspeed exhaust system. I looked like an easy DIY so about an hour later they were in. I’ll have it out for a ride this weekend when my car’s ECU is reinstalled.
Thanks!

Nice project JW and thanks for sharing. Also noticed the prerequisite tools(cigars)... +1. LMK if you ever get out to Austin. We'll break into my store of Cubans.
Will add this to our DIY sticky.
