Default My new 997 dangling in the air

Well after dreaming about getting a 911 since I graduated college, I finally seized the opportunity in getting a beautiful 2009 997 Carrera in Carrara White with full Cocoa leather interior and only 19,600 miles.

250 PDK gearbox
342 Seat heating
345 Steering wheel heating
446 Wheel caps with colored Porsche crest
541 Seat ventilation
603 PDLS Porsche Dynamic Light System
619 Bluetooth
640 Sport Chrono Plus
670 PCM navigation module
680 Bose sound system, CD storage
686 SAT radio reception XM (SDARS)
798 Special leather Cocoa
810 Floor mats
840 Steering wheel with PDK paddle shift
844 Multifunction steering wheel
870 Universal multimedia interface

I purchased it from a private individual in AR and had it transported to MI during the height of the polar vortex last week. The transport drivers, a husband/wife team, picked up the car at 2:30 am last Thursday and delivered it to my door at 11:00 pm the same day! They were great--giving me constant text updates:
"250 miles to go..."
"50 miles to go..."
"10 miles to go, get your boots on...!"

What they didn't realize, was that I had my coat and boots on for an hour before they arrived! The delivery quite conveniently coincided with my 52nd birthday. I felt like I was 10-years-old again, anticipating the birthday gift from my dad; a white Schwinn Stingray Cotton Picker bike.

I met the transport truck during a snow flurry in a church parking lot within walking distance to my house at 11:15 pm.

My 997 was in an enclosed trailer on the top deck above a 2015 Ford Mustang that was headed to the Detroit Auto Show--looked great.

In front of mine was a nice looking 964 and a '40's coupe under cover--my car had good company.

The drivers broke the thick ice off of the rear door latches and plugged in the electric release button to open the rear door. It slid up and open, but it seemed strained. I could see my baby, and the couple picked up on my excitement and picked up their pace, even though they hauled tail through the bad weather.

The wife backed my car out onto the platform and the husband pressed the "down" button.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/47547424@N00/11873175943/The platform bounced. Nothing. Pressed it again. Nothing. This went on for nearly an hour.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/47547424@N00/11872909605/They tried everything within their power to get it on the ground.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/47547424@N00/11873758066/http://www.flickr.com/photos/47547424@N00/11873203893/http://www.flickr.com/photos/47547424@N00/11873218453/Fortunately, their dispatch office was just ten minutes away and they delivered a replacement switch.

Ninety minutes and about an inch of snow later, my car was on the ground! Thoughtfully, she put the heated seats on high.

My car looked better than the hundred photos that I was pouring over the past month. Except for the hideous, bumper scarring front license plate holder, some wheel edge curbing and a 1/16" door edge paint chip, it is perfect.

I went against everything I know about buying cars from out-of-state, and bought it sight unseen and without a PPI. I implicitly trusted the seller. I would not recommend this, but I did a lot of research on the owner and checked with the dealer where it was serviced and felt comfortable with the deal.

One final thing: before I took delivery, I received bumper plugs and clear side markers! That'll be my first mods. Better photos to come, once the weather cooperates.

Must've been wonderful to finally get her into your garage although she looks at home in the snow. I'd love to see some pics of the interior (and more exteriors pics when the weather is on your side).

Congrats and enjoy in the best of health!!!

I enjoyed the read. It was only a couple of months ago I received mine. It did get off the transporter a little quicker! Congrats..

Congrats. Enjoyed reading about your adventure. That must've been just killin' you to have it so close, yet stuck up on that platform. Sounds like you had a good team working for you though.
