Do any of you use the hood protector that attaches to the underside of the frunk lid? $229 from SunCoast.

 

Yes... glad I have it. Simple 2 minute install.

 

I have one too. However, I think it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I've yet to come across anybody who actually had any frunk lid damage that was a result of something inside the frunk.

All of that said... it does have a much more finished look than the bare metal that it covers. It also gives me a clean slate for track map vinyl.

 

I would spend / save that $200+ for a performance improvement.

 

That's kinda what I was thinking. Not sure the aesthetics of it are worth $300.

 

Actually, if you are not careful, you can easily damage the hood, by over filling it and then trying to close the lid against it. With the hoods now made of aluminum, the potential of damage is higher. You take a chance either way.

 

At one point there was a group buy which some of us took advantage off... less than $200 if I recall correctly. Fairly inexpensive protection considering the alternative... hood repair/paint. Of course, you should always be careful with items in the frunk. My wife is always amazed at how much groceries we can fit in there. Heavy/hard items go towards the bottom. Breads and soft items on top JIC.

 

The first time went to Costco after getting the car I was shocked how much I could fit in the frunk. I keep a towel that I put over any hard items in the frunk but I make sure that nothing sticks above the outside edges of the storage area. I have managed to fit a 19" rim (without tire) in that space, no issues

 

It wasn't my highest priority, and I knew shipping to Hawaii would be a killer, but I found a nice used one in the classified and pulled the trigger on it. Its' a nice part and fits like it was OE. I am glad to have it.

 

the frank was made for this!! 2 bags of charcoal and some wood chips for smoking. One of the first things I put into my frunk!!

I've also been on the fence about this. I use my trunks almost on a daily basis, so I definitely want to protect them if this is a real problem. I'm curious if anyone has ever actually damaged or even just seen a car damaged from this. I'm also wondering if it would even be effective? If you are pushing it hard enough to dent aluminum how is plastic going to prevent that? Unless it gives you some early warning?

 

What about keeping a travel blanket in the trunk and placing it on top of stuff carried in the trunk?

 

Cheap insurance. I would rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.
I got a Lid Liner, easy ordering, fast shipment and it installed in 5 minutes. Now I don't have to worry (as much !) when my wife takes the car and gets groceries or etc.
$200.00 isn't going to make a difference on what I do for performance upgrades, and if it did....then maybe I should have bought something else. Just my two cents, but then if you talk to my wife, it is only worth one......

I've used one on all four of the P-Cars I've had. As others have said, it's easy to install and provides peace of mind. Better to have it in an unanticipated situation in which you need to transport hard, bulky cargo in the frunk.
