Thumbs up These Cars Are Meant to Be DRIVEN!

Posted this in the 997TT section, but figured you guys would like seeing these pictures too...

Had to go to PA today so what's better than a 200 mile road trip in the 997? When I left New York it was overcast but it soon started raining. The outside temp never went above 30º so as soon as the water hit the ground it froze. Ice, snow, rain, who cares, right? I just love driving this car!

Looks like fun but do you worry about salt corrosion?

These cars have had galvanized bodies since the mid 80s so I'm not worried.

Turbo looks at home on those roads. I'd be nervous in my Carrera S in those icy conditions though...

You are indeed a brave man. The salt they use in PA is bad enough, but the liquid brine they apply before a winter storm is especially corrosive, and gets into every crack and crevice under a car. But the absolute worst is the anti-skid they mix with the salt. It is always contaminated with larger pebble size stones that once dropped on the roadway, get kicked up by pick-up trucks and tractor trailers, and can seriously damage paint or take out a windshield.

Love your car. Are you running snow tires?

Please tell me you hosed off the undercarriage after that run.....

Kudos on having the intestinal fortitude to drive a TT in those conditions. I think I'd have left mine in the garage and used the truck.....you da man!

Love it man! These cars are meant to be DRIVEN and the all-wheel drive is excellent. I just don't have quite the weather you do to warrant snow tires but the car can certainly handle it. Probably a good under carriage spray off wouldn't be a bad idea. Enjoy!

Looks normal to me. Mine stays pegged at 5 even at idle until oil reaches temp. He's at 3k RPM with oil at about 190 so that seems right.

Although 964's and 993's are known to rust fairly easily (around the windshield for example) I thought compared to my previous e36 M3 I drove in snow all the time with no obvious rust on the body.
