Fuel tanks are identical between 996 C2 and 997 Carrera S. 64 liters. Source. And per fueleconomy.gov 996 and 997 C2s have identical highway MPG rating of 24. So what gives you the bad mileage?

Here is the video of my MPG and range so no BS flags are raised.

As all things involve compromise, it is virtually impossible for one vehicle to satisfy all needs. For a single vehicle to be a comfortable long ride highway driver and an exhilarating sports car will ultimately be mutually exclusive. If you want both in a single car, compromise will be the inevitable result. One solution is buying two cars that were designed to maximize each purpose. This involves no compromise. Otherwise, you will need to choose the car that has more benefits than flaws.

My TTS is a very comfortable car to drive every day. However, the Range Rover Sport definitely offers more luxury and comfort to driver and passengers on a 10 hour highway drive. Yet In the city or on quiet country roads, nothing is more thrilling than the TTS. The sad fact is a single vehicle cannot be all things to all people.

Which is why my next car won't be a 991. I want a small nimble sports car for twisties, not a big cushy computer automated gt car.

130kph = 80.78 mph
500kms = 310.69 miles

And the Sport Adaptive seats are the most comfortable seats that I have ever had in a car. I can sit in them all day long.

Not sure what you're listening to, but the Bose in mine is absolutely terrible. As an aftermarket, I'd value it at about $10, and wouldn't put it in a Yugo.

Do you ever listen to live music? In all seriousness, I ho early don't get how anyone could see the Bose as even acceptable - much less as worth the option cost. I'm beginning to think that there are some Porsche owners who don't know what real music sounds like.....

I really don't see a problem with the range, stopping every 350 miles or so to fill up with gas is not so bad. Now if I drove 12 hours a day ever day it may get old, but I doubt I'd be doing that kind of driving in a 997. My pickup with 36 gallon tank requires stopping for gas every 350 miles or so also.

Bose do a great job at marketing themselves as a high end audio company, but not such a great job at making good on those promises. That said, the Bose system in the Porsche is not that bad, especially considering the acoustics of the vehicle and all the other noises going on. I find it be satisfactory for vehicle audio, it's certainly not bad enough to make me want to rip it out.

At the end of the day, the 997 is a sports car and it plays that role very well.

Ethanol winter-blend fuel. I got 22.6 mpg yesterday, I get ~18 commuting. Call it 20 overall; it would take a 20-gal tank to get 400 miles. On the interstate @75 mph, a 5-hour stint is 375 miles, which my C2S will not get anywhere close to.

Not sure how you can get 27, but it's not an S, and I'm betting that that was on pure gasoline.

No matter how you cut it, the tank is too small for my approach to road trips.

Default GT car

I drove my 2006 Bentley CGT 60k miles from new. Best GT car made IMO. Porsche's where not designed to drive 10+ hours a day but rather spirited shorter drives.

I owned some Maserati's and they do not compare to the Bentley as a GT car. My Merc S63 though was quite the car . Sadly all those cars are gone

I think that if mileage & the stereo are your primary concern, Porsche was the wrong choice and it's time to buy a different car.
It would seem that a sport sedan like an M5 or E55 would better suit you but spirited driving in those would also hurt yout mileage.

Amusing that some complain the 991 has betrayed the 911 sporting heritage and become too GT like. Others bemoan the fact that the 911 is not GT enough. Now we read that the gas tank is too small, not sufficiently comfortable to endure a 10 hour highway drive and the standard sound system is unlistenable. The 911 TT is called boring, the only genuine 911 is air cooled and Porsche sold out with the water cooled engine and progressive stability control and computer assisted driving aids. Inspite of all the criticism, nothing gives me more driving pleasure than my Porsche.

In North America, however, it may considered colloquial - but this doesn't make it's usage incorrect.

1). Mileage is not the concern. RANGE is my concern, and a slightly larger tank takes nothing away from a sports car's character, as evidenced by the fact that the GT2/3 have larger tank options.

2). The stereo is not my biggest concern, but there is no reason to put a piece of garbage in ANY $100K car and call it an "upgrade".

Neither of the items I've mentioned have anything to do with sports coupe vs. Sedan, nor would fixing them damage the performance of the 911 as a sports car in any way.

I guess I don't understand anyone would defend shortcomings of a design, when there are no tradeoffs required for them to have been done properly to begin with. If BMW can put decent sound in a Mini and Porsche can put a normal-sized fuel tank in the GTx version of the 911, there's no good reason to miss the mark on either of these items.
