Default Spin on oil filter adapter

I am considering adding a spin-on oil filter adapter to my '09 Carrera.

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with this thing? I'd like to hear people's real-world opinions before I add it.

Thanks in advance,
James

I've had the LN adapter for the last 4 years. It's a very nicely machined piece. Makes oil changes a bit easier. It makes inspecting the oil filter more difficult as you have to cut the metal filter can open.

I did it with the magnetic drain plug. Spin on runs all the oil thru the filter vs some oil with a cartridge.
Also can chance the filer with out changing the oil. (Just my preference) If you skip on the spin on the magnetic plug is a good idea.

+1 on the magnetic plug. I've consider the adapter in the past but I like the convenience of cutting the paper filter... mag plug and paper filter inspection during the regular oil change is a great way for 997.1 owners to perform a simple engine health check. Any significant metal bits = investigate further as it may be IMS and/or other engine related issues. BTW, I just read a article in this month's issue of Excellence Mag re a 993 engine rebuild(opportunistic upgrade to 4.0 liters) due to IMS... was a bit surprised that the 993's also had this type of issue with their dual row IMS. FWIW, the owner caught the IMS issue just prior to engine grenade by inspecting his oil filter. Timely catch.

I haven't seen a spin on adapter for the 09+ engines.

Default Adapter

I haven't seen a spin on adapter for the 09+ engines.
LN Engineering's website says the DFI my '09+ adapter is now available on their online store although I have not gone to look at it yet.

Edit: That appears to be Boxter and Cayman only. Not sure if the 997 DFI part is available. My question might be moot.
