Happy Thanksgiving all,
I've got some black gummy stuff on my just-swapped-in winter wheels. Will Barkeeper's Friend scratch the silver painted finish? Otherwise I'll try goo-gone, but I'm a bit afraid of that also!
Thanks in advance...

Don't use that.
Get a good citrus degreaser, like Wurth.
You can even try WD40 or your favorite wax.

Again. An Aliphatic hydrocarbon, like WD40 should do the trick. (Goo Gone is essentially the same thing, well, they are both petroleum distillates although there are differences in their respective compositions. The main component of WD40 is Stoddard Solvent; Goo-Gone's may be proprietary but similar in nature. I've used WD40 without ill effect to remove "sticky" substances on a number of painted surfaces.) Good luck.

you can buy Meguires or Eagle 1 or other wheel cleaners and they will get anything off. just dont use any cleaner on a hot wheel or when its in the sun.
if there is any tar you use a wax and grease remover or mineral spirits. After you get a wheel clean, you can wash them regularly with simple green or 409 or strong cleaners and you wont have any trouble rewashing them

Yup. That's done. My standard detail spray (that has a little carnauba already in it) did the trick with very little effort.
Thanks all.
