Default Gas Mileage drop?

Looking for some thoughts from the group... Ever since I got the car a couple of months ago I've averaged right around 19.6 mpg... then in the last couple of days it suddenly dropped to 17.2 mpg. Ironically enough, that was during a long-distance drive in which I was feathering the throttle... Anyone have any ideas what could've caused the sudden drop?

Hmmm. Bad gas? Not sure if you get the winter gas there. Makes a difference in some cars

Check your tire pressures esp in cold weather.

Yeah, tire pressure was the first thing I checked. I'm guessing it's probably bad/winter gas...

i just had the same thing happen to me however over a period of 18 months, i was getting about 490km to a tank of gas, and before i knew it 18 months later i was struggling to get 330km to a tank

I had the dealer reset the adaptation on the PDK unit and all is well now, i managed 478km on my last tank

My avg fuel consumption is 13.5 mpg. I get 19.8 on the highway above 85 MPH. It is worse in the wintertime. I am not sure how anyone gets more than 16 mpg in moderate city driving. I try being gentle with the gas but with stop and go traffic I still can't get much better than 13 and change.

Really? I get ~17, even being fairly aggressive. Is it possible that the 3.8/6MT gets better mileage?

It's a good idea to at least roughly keep track of your fuel consumption; a sudden change can be a good early indicator of problems.

Tire pressure is mostly the culprit, second, bad gas.

Thanks for adding your zero cents Just kiddin!

I've done a couple of long distance runs and the gas milage has been quite impressive. The last trip from Toronto to Indianapolis, 6th gear with cruise control gave me almost 550kms to the tank. Drop in gas milage after you've eliminated variables like dirty gas, etc. indicates a problem which should be triaged and a root cause identified or it'll get worse.

My target range is 200 miles per tank. I rarely get there. Most of the time it's around 185 miles before my light comes on. But it's better than my 91 Grand Wagoneer. That thing gets 7 miles to the gallon on a good day with a good back wind and rolling down hill.
