To add to the list of satisfied customers, replaced my original switch (02 series) with the new replacement (50 series) - very easy job indeed and cleared up the intermittent non-starting issue. The original switch only had 2000 miles on it, so it appears to be a faulty part rather than wear. The switch is so easy to bypass in a pinch; just pull those wires off the terminals and connect them together as I did initially to diagnose.
Just replaced mine on a 2007 C4S with about 40K Kms (30K miles). I installed a new 997.613.109.50 and the old was 997.613.109.00 for reference and was factory original. I used a small allen wrench in a T7 (T10 would not fit).
Wanted to update that I used the info here to replace my clutch switch, 2010 997.2 with 67k miles. I was occasionally getting the Depress Clutch warning and had to really jam down the clutch to start the car. I ordered the part from Suncoast, who advertises they sell the latest updated part number.
Pretty easy fix with some contortion. Based on the advice from others, I bought this $10 torx mini Allen set and used a T8–
. The bolt is not very tight so I was able to lightly break it loose with the key and then loosen the rest of the way by hand. Same thing to reinstall.

Very quick and easy. Thanks Rennlist!

So I watched the video above and the brown wire was on the front (further to the floor) side of the switch. I'm looking at mine now and the brown wire is the forward one. Anyone can confirm how these are supposed to be installed? Maybe I'm having issues with mine because the cables are backwards for whatever reason?
Just change the part. One cannot connect a simple switch the wrong way, either the switch is not activated - no current flowing through it, or the switch is indeed activated (by the clutch e.g.), then the circuit is closed and current is flowing through, no matter which way the cables are connected.
