997.2 - Carbon Buildup ?
Started the car yesterday and noticed this dripping from the mufflers on both sides.
Wonder if it is a reason for concern. Greatly appreciated if anyone can chime in.

I get that every time I start my car cold. Nothing to worry about.

On startup the 997.2 DFI runs rich to heat up the Cats. This causes a lot of soot in the exhaust. Normal to meet emissions I guess.

^ Yes, there is as given above. I've owned 4 DI vehicles (Porsche, 2 x Audi, and Ford), and all of them have had sooty tailpipes. The only non-DI car which came close in the soot department was an AP1 Honda S2000 which was known to run very rich.

My car also experienced "spotting", when new seemed to happen more often, but not with the size of the "discharge" you are seeing. Mine were like little specks, in comparison.
My car has 22k miles, no spots on the garage floor. No smoke, typical oil consumption.
Good luck.
OP, you really could do something to that garage floor...

The soot is not from oil. It is the result of unburned fuel hitting the piston directly and being carbonized. This is an issue with direct injected engines. The new trend is to use both port and direct injection on the same engine to get the benefits of both systems.

Mine does the same thing. On cold days, if I don't let mine warm up a while before driving it to let the exhaust heat up to dry up the condensation, I get some of the droplets on the rear bumper which does not look too good on my white GTS. As others have stated, it is one of the negatives of a DFI engine.
