Thumbs up Original Engine?

Anyone know how to find out if an engine is original to the car or a replacement?

your Porsche certificate of authenticity will have the original VIN + engine number on it.

compare the engine number to the one on your engine via checking underneath the car...

I think if you can't verify through the dealer network if the motors been replaced, a Certificate of Authenticity might be the only way.

I thought they put a X somewhere in a rebuilt factory engine number.

You can order a VIN report from Suncoast which was about $10 or $20 and this report will give you your original engine number (along with a bunch of other specs). Then you can look at the engine number on your engine to see if they match.

IIRC....If it was a factory replacement motor, there should be an "A" in the block stamp.
The "A" is for the German word for replacement or something like that.

100% confirmed, windyCityC2S is correct.

i am looking over the paper work of my friends replacement engine right now.

M97/01ATXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

with that said there are no "X" in the engine number.
