PDK Question
#3
in all reality, the pdk can shift alot better and faster than an average driver can. if you are doing some agressive, sport driving then you may want to test your skills against the automatic mode and see if you can do better. you should try driving the car in manual for 2 or 3 days straight and see how you like the feel. then decide if you think you perform better or worse

Auto and still downshift occasionally with the paddles

I don't have pdk but I've driven them. My MO is run in auto for general use but always manually downshift when I want to make a pass or otherwise need quick acceleration.

The paddles work, even in auto mode. I am in auto mode during the warm up period (the oil, not the water), and I am often in auto if in heavy traffic. Otherwise, I'm in manual mode and use the paddles most of the time, unless on a very twisty road, then the stick is the way to go since the paddles are not always where you want them when the wheel is turned.

Usually I drive in Auto Sports mode around town, taking your foot of the gas at an upcoming light the car slows down by downshifting naturally. Stop and go traffic in regular auto the car shifts a lot between stop and go points.
I also use the paddle shifters in auto sport mode to change down when approaching a light etc.
On the highway I run regular auto mode to get into 7th gear and better gas mileage.

I just came from a DE @PPRC west of Indy. Been there 3 other times w manual 6 speed C4s. This was by far the most fun I have had and I was faster in this C2s PDK. I stayed in the sport mode w pasm on. I never touched the steering wheel controls (not paddles but buttons). My instructor is the chief instructor, and he was very impressed with the PDK shift points and speed, "it always knows just where/what gear to be in"! I tried Sport Plus a bit too, but found it just a bit too "hyper" for the 2 mile 10 turn track. Sport mode was just right for me. Lots of differing thoughts on this, as you see from above. Driving around town, I usually leave it in Normal mode and have experimented with engaging the buttons in Sport and manually shifting with the gear selector in normal, Sport, and Sport Plus. Really nice to have so many ways to have fun with the car. Auto is best in town IMO.

Never had PDK but in my M3 with SMG, I ALWAYS ran with the manual with the stick to be exact. Was never a huge fan of the paddles...
I would slip it into Auto when the phone rang only. This is how I knew I wanted a 6MT for my next car. Now I'm in a manual C2S with bluetooth. Winner!
