I replace my pump every 4 years if that helps you.
Every 4 years! How many miles?

You never go bankrupt in the Canadian system because you won't survive!

Unlike most people on this board I have been on socialized medicine in another country and there is no place I would rather be sick than America!

It appears that the 997.2 water pump is different than the 997.1 design and my actually be easier to replace.

Yet the average Canadian lives longer than the average American. Go figure. But we do have to pass the death panel test and the government can decide to withhold treatment if you're too old. Why treat an old person if they're just going to die in a few years anyway?

BTW, there is no such things as the "Canadian system", as in a homogeneous entity. The level of care received depends on where you live, and thus far in my life I'm very happy with the level of care my family and myself has received.

This post is turning out to be from water pump maintenace the obama water care.... Lets stick to the topic bros. dgrayling, i agree it looks like the 997.2 wp is easier to replace. And from what i read might be less prone to cavitation which could be the main destroyer of the impeller and bearing on the 997.1 version. These engine engineers did their job on the 9a1 engine.

FWIW, Excellence magazine published an article re the 997.1 WP and recommended that it be replaced after 40K-50K miles. That prompted me to replace my own WP as it neared 50K miles.

I have had my car worked on by Flat 6 Innovations and they advise the replacement based on time as the critical element not mileage.

as a note to this topic, i foresee Dgrayling being one of the great contributors to this forum. he has just joined the group but already has a few posts that are worthy of being forever part of this forum.
anyways, from his pic of the 997.2 water pump. i would like to add that as early as 10k kms my 997.2 developed a minor leak with part number 11. if im not mimstaken this is a plastic part that is suceptible to cracking. visual checks for powdery stuff in the securing bolts would indicate the presence of the leak.
for additional info.

Has anyone replaced a 997.2 water pump as yet? I am wondering if the impeller on these cars is plastic or metal. It appears to be of a different design than the 997.1 cars. Thanks.

I recall reading that the water pump on the 997.2 is easier to replace that on the 997.1. Apparently less attachments have to be removed in order to get at it.
