Default My Ceramic Exhaust Tips

I wanted to post some pics of my newly coated black exhaust tips. I wanted to make sure to get it ceramic coated. The tips were polished stainless and then painted by the previous owner using crappy BBQ paint that started to flake off.

I got them done by Joe at Prodigy Coatings http://www.prodigycoatings.com

The price was great and black ceramic coating is much better than painting them.

Just to be clear it's not ceramic powder coating, just ceramic coating. Powder coating is a different process and isn't recommended over ceramic coating for exhaust tips.

How about what ever soap and water you wash the car with. However, I use a separate rag after washing every think else.

I am not so sure about ceramic coating on steel. The steel heats up, expands and cracks the ceramic. Ceramic generally works only on cast iron at best.

Ha! I don't need no fancy ceramic coating stuff.
My tips get black all by themselves with soot ;-)

...just a plug for the low budget option. I have a non-S '05 with the single, sort of rectangular tips. I cleaned/sanded/high temp primed/high temp flat black painted them about 3 years and 40K miles ago and they are still like new! Autozone sourced stuff, about $25. Granted they are way easier to paint and avoid runs than the dual outlet look but I've gotten amazing durability out of a really easy and inexpensive alternative. BTW, done in the garage in about an hour, most of that time being the wait for the coats of paint to dry.

I've had ceramic coated tips on my TT for 2+ years no problems with cracking.

I was worried about this at first too. But after speaking with Joe at Prodigycoatings he explained the process.

He has been doing it for over 8 years with great results, no cracking. It is a special process. When applied correctly, the coating has great thermal shock and thermal expansion properties as well as temp ratings elevating to 2,000 deg F. The stuff he uses is used by two major well known turbo manufacturers and many other parts on a daily basis and have great credibility in the powder and ceramics application field. Thats why it needs to be done correctly.
