Learnt my lesson about road rage yesterday. Got a little impatient with the car ahead of me and decided to honk at the driver. The sound that came out was very similar to last dying breath of a skewered pig. Got the weirdest look from the driver too, I bet he was laughing on the inside.
So...horn replacement, is it a DIY? I like the sound of the Porsche horn so replacement from eBay?
Try this before you buy a new horn. Determine which horn doesnt work (you have 2 of them) Spray WD-40 into the horn. Let it sit for 1 hr then hit the horn button. (I mean whail on it.) It should work after that. My neighbor did this trick on his 04 Cayenne and it has been working ever since.

Sounds good, but on a 997, you have to remove the bumper to get at them and therefore, for $20, you just replace it with an updated part. I am 99% sure you can't get to them to do this. I am also holding the horn I took out of my car and see that given the horn's horn is curled, you would have to really get up in there to get the oil on any active component. What I am saying is that you probably need good, clear access to the horn to spray up into it.
If you can spray a 997 horn without removing a bumper, let us know as it would save so much time and effort.

Your probably right. After removing the bumper and all of the work its just best to replace the $20 part. But I'm some what old school and I try to fix the parts instead of just replace with new parts. My neighbor told me about the wd-40 trick that he tried on his Cayenne 2 years ago and horn is still going strong.
Fudge Buckets! I live in a Condo and have no space to get the bumper off the car
Looks like I'm gonna have to live with a skewered horn until I have a bigger reason to pay for the labor to get the front bumper off. Silly thing for Porsche to do though in terms of design
Years ago one of the guys on s2ki.com installed a set of horns off an 18-wheeler in his S2000. The horns were so big you could see all the trumpets sticking out in the front airdam.

I have those on my Harley, you should see people poop their pants when I light em up cause they're expecting a big Mac Truck rolling up behind them

LOL Mine died while i was doing the same thing. I don't think the guy I was honking at even heard it. I started laughing at how stupid the horn sounded and I how stupid I felt honking it. Dealer fixed it free.
I have an '07 Targa 4S, and I just replaced my horn- the low. I replaced it with an OEM and used an indie mechanic. I could have bought a Hella for a lot less and saved some $$
