Default For all you 997 C2S guys...

Keep your cars, they are awesome! I'm a 997tt owner, but in the last wk had a chance to take my first spirited drives in a 991 loaded C2S with 7sp MT and a 2007 C2S with PSE, PASM, 6sp, sport suspension and some aero bits. Long story short, my bother went to look at an R8 and ended up falling for the $50k less expensive C2S. R8 wins on exotic looks/tech (and chicks definitely dig it!), but couldn't even come close on fun factor. The 991 IMO is a bit nicer looking (updated but still looks like a 911), smoother ride, comfy interior with updated electronics.... but it wasn't that much fun to drive. The 997 was a hoot. I had no idea a flat 6 could sound so good. The factory sport exhaust is worth every penny! The steering was spot on (had pilot sports which I liked a lot and will get for my turbo soon), perfect control and feedback from the road (much better feel than AWD). It really didn't even feel slower than the 991. The older MT has much better feel as well.

Just for pure fun factor, sounds and steering feel.. hate to say it... but the 997 C2S has my turbo beat. I goes down as one of my all time favorite cars just to drive. I loved it! Still like the looks and power of my tt and wouldn't trade down, but will sure enjoy driving the C2S every chance I get

Thanks for the feedback. I have a GTS Cab, and I've recently begun to lament the fact that I didn't stretch to get a turbo cab. I felt the power kit that came standard on the GTS would be adequate, but as much as I love my car, more power would be nice, especially at high altitude.
But I sure I wouldn't want to give up the steering feel that my car has, or the tossability. I've checked with TPC a couple of times, but they hadn't worked out the adaptation to the powerkit cars, last I heard.
Anyway, I now have a Shelby coupe for the feeling of power I desired. And the C7 is looking pretty nice, too.

Earlier this year I spent several days in Germany driving a brand new 991 which specs out better than my C2S. I want to like it, and I really did like the PDK, but my 997 still seems more responsive and nimble -- definitely more fun to drive. My wife said, "You can get a 991 if you want to," but I don't want to. If I were dissatisfied at all with my 997, I think I would be looking at a Boxster S before a 991.

I love the power of the turbo and wouldn't trade it.... but the C2S is a smooth operator. Amazing how 2 such similar cars feel so different.

As for wives.... mine is positively unimpressed by the hard riding, neck snapping abilities of the turbo. She puts up with it b/c I like it so much. She has tried already to get me to trade it on an R8 or 991 cab....not gonna happen

For me, the fun factor of the C2S makes up for the power of a TT or the luxuriousness of the 991. I test drove a 991 last year, but when got in my car to return home I was happier in it than I was in the 991. Love the power of TT's, but the feel and responsiveness of my C2S is more important to me than the raw power.

I can totally see that now... at the time I bought the TT, there was no getting 2 sports cars and the TT checked off the most boxes for this HP junky!

I could see myself getting a 996/997 GT3, 964 RSA or similar now. I can only imagine the GT3 is like C2S++

Agree with the GT3 comment, based on feedback from every GT3 owner I know. I'm just not sure it would be as easy to drive in normal conditions.

I was so close to getting a 991 but backed out at the last minute because the 997 was just more FUN to drive. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it and just feels like a bat out of hell!

I agree with all of the comments! I love the less "refined" 997. Also, I have always been a normally aspirated kind of person. For the most part, we can't use all of that massive power on local roads. Note, there is always going to be someone faster than you; my choice is about drivability, not HP.

997 C2S is no slouch. Yes the TT is faster, but the C2S is NOT slow. I think turbos are great but when it came time to buy, I cancelled my turbo order for a GTS. Only Ferrari sounds better ( not as much fun to drive IMO)

I live out in the middle of Nowhere, TX. Flat, dry, open...If it did not have massive HP, then would be no fun at all. I agree about the "always someone faster" part....but with certian cars you can do fast in style. If a turbo'd mustang beat a Ferrari Scud... well, that's great but it's still just a fast mustang. I know it's a bit snobbish... what we pay to purchase and maintain these cars means we are looking for something more than a mainstream sportscar can offer. My brother is looking at that 2007 C2S with 44k mi and its still more $$ than many brand new cars that could "beat it" on the street and would have modern comforts and tech. They just don't offer the same feel though.

And I don't daily drive the P-car. Would have a C2S in a heartbeat if could only have one car for everyday use..

Hp is nice, but I do not think I would wind up the turbo's enough to justify (dont need that many speeding tickets). That said I understand the allure of the TT, but for me C2s cab will suffice.

I just sold my 996 tt x50 and got a 2012 carrera gts....no regrets here!! 997 way improved driving feel over 996 and rear wheel drive more natural feeling too!! Of course it doesnt have the snot the old one had...460 torque compared to 310..but car feels just as quick due to weight issues and easability of driving. I will post some pics soon!!

Thanks OP, that is good to hear. I rather like my 997 C2S and while I would love to get a Turbo someday, I fear the loss of steering feel, the heavier weight during handling, and what Turbo lag remains compared to the NA motors.
