Default California 'Porsche Roads' with embedded videos

Periodically there is interest in treks through California and inquiries are made herein about routes that are particularly suited to Porsche capabilities.

The other day I made a run to Oregon and back and on the way back through I did my usual run through Route 41 to 229 and on to 58 (west bound). It's a particularly nice run so long as the traffic is light (which I find it usually is).

You can pick it up west of Chalome (which Porsche 550 fans will remember is the site of a monument to James Dean who died about 300-400 yards east of that marker). Following route 46/41 west toward Shandon you divert off the main route of 46 onto route 41 and then follow the windiest of roads (Routes 41, 229 and then ultimate 58 til you come to the town of Santa Margarita which is just off Route 101. All of this is between San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles along Route 101.

First link is just after departing Shandon, with the second link picking up the action until you just hit Route 58.

Please excuse the amateur sound. No nice music piped over--just a lot of wind noise and occasional engine sounds slipping in!

Porsche Road One (West)

Porsche Road Two (West) (watch carefully at 5:37 in the second link)

Here's another favorite in Oregon--Territorial Highway between Drain (south of Eugene off I5 leading to Crow).

Great roads Edgy. Curious what your speed was on Video 2 when the deer were seen ahead. My biggest fear on these types of drives is having a deer or some other animal suddenly jumping out in front of me. But I love these types of drives. They are why I love having a Porsche to drive on them with.

Having the best brakes on any street car helps considerably. I never felt that I was at risk. The deer were encountered in a windy section where I was going maybe 45-55 mph. An easy slow down to 35 for them to move off. In some of the straight areas (video one) I kept it under 100 mph.

I am sure the deer want to see how nice your blue car is much like TommyV44 back east. And I know your ceramics stop better than anything else on the road.

Thanks for sharing. Really looking fwd to the trip with my son down the coast (Wash. Oregon, Northern Cali)in Sept.. Lots of deer in my area at times too. You just have to keep aware of them and drive "reasonable" speeds.
