993 vs. new Cayman S article
Cool article with some interesting observations. I like this quote:
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...911-carrera-s/
Call it a decade or so of useful service, a machine that never fails to grab you by the lapels – as long as you have the throttle mapping set correctly. It’s far too expensive, of course, and for the money you could easily have a new ‘Vette Stingray or a CPO 997 (and isn’t that the biggest argument against the Cayman?).
Yet it’s an excellent sportscar – when I drove the 991 Carrera S last July, I concluded with something like: “It is probably the best car I will drive all year. And I don’t want one.” Well, the Cayman is probably going to be the best new car I drive this year, and I do want one.

Ah yes, The Truth About Cars, or as I like to put it, The View From the Trailer Park. If I wanted to read ****-poor journalsim hacked out by talentless amateurs with no driving skills or engineering knowledge, ... I would stick to Jalopnik.

you guys really liked the article?
i was a bit disappointed as he basically rambled on and on, and there really wasn't anything new with what he said...was any of it a surprise?
that said, i think the best thing to do is to buy both a cayman s, as well as a 993 S, and then make sure to add a cabriolet variation in the family to have some variety on those perfect 78 degree days.

very bad comparison. First, 993 is a car to sit in your garage while its owners engage in endless debates on how much the value went up this month in between wax application #54 and #55 for the year.
The 981 is a performer -- a car meant to be thrashed while keeping you alive at best possible odds. It's very depreciation is the reason to enjoy it's engineering each day you own it. And it should be re-emphasized that this depreciation is due to over-production not because of any inherent attributes in the 9A1 cars. I will sleep much better at night with one of these than a leaky antique I can only drive when the the weather chick says possibility of precipitation is 0%.
The fact that weight difference between these two cars is barely 100 pounds after 15 years, with all of the tech advancements, safety, speed and handling is amazing. Can't wait for an R version Boxster and Cayman. Or maybe these cars are just too good to even go there this time around....
993 for the mantle.
981S for the street.
