Default 997 C4S vs 991

Looking to upgrade from my 06 C2 and considering two cars ... 2012 C4S cab and 2013 991 cab ... both preowned but ridiculously low miles and essentially new cars. Price is about the same. Both PDK, both similarly optioned.

Which woud you buy?

Heh - here we go again! Be aware: you're asking on the 997 board...

If I was going Cab I would probably take the 991.

If I was going cab, I would go with the new Boxster. If I had to choose only a 911. I would probably go with the 997 due to its better looks and more hp on the S.

Well, where do you live? Do you need 4 wheel drive? If not then 991. The profileof the 991 cab looksso good top down or up.

perhaps i'll get killed for saying this, but i think wait another year, and then get the 991 S Cab for the same price(or less) as today's non-S

Ha ... I already own a 997, so I'm aware where I'm asking the question. I think my 06 is a great car, but my wife doesn't drive a stick. They deviously gave me a new Boxster loaner with a PDK a couple weeks ago and for the first time I can imagine myself in a non-manual car. In fact, I had a great time tossing it around the back roads cracking off shifts. I'm a believer.

I've owned numerous 911s, and a couple of Carrera 4 examples in the mix, so while I don't really need the AWD (I have an Audi for the winter), it's not a bad thing to have. It's really a question of base 991 vs. top-of-the-line 997 (not including the Turbo or GT3, of course).

The Boxster is a great car but I've been driving 911s since 1990 and while I had a fling with a Boxster awhile back, I was wishing it was a 911 from the moment I drove it off the lot, so ...

My next one will be PDK, I remember watching IRL a few years ago after watching F1. Was surprised the IRL guys had to reach down and shift...

Are you comparing 997 C4S with 991 base Carrera?

If so, TEST DRIVE, I've heard from many that 991 Carrera with smaller engine has very low torque downlow, and it's a bit slow driving around town at low RPMs. If that doesn't bother you, you like 991 design and size, and the electric steering and other 991 changes, go for 991. Otherwise, the 997 "S" is definitely the sportier car.

The 997 4S looks soooo much better than any 991, let alone a base 991, IMHO. If you really want a 991, at least wait for an S version.

Of course, the 991 pipes exhaust sound into the cabin. The 997, unfortunately, is not that adavanced...

The 997 C4S obviously!

There is nothing I like about the 991 aesthetically......nothing! Living in Boston I'm thinking the C4S would be the practical choice as well!

Love the 4S even without the snow! *** end alone gets me going!

Good Luck!

might come down to whether you prefer hydraulic or electric steering.

the 991 cab is a lot quieter (i'm not talking exhaust) and much more civilized than the 997 cab. Its almost coupe like. It will come down to what you prefer. The 997 is quirkier, sportier, better looking. The 991 is a jekyll and hyde. Can be really quiet and civilized. Very smooth and absorbs the road, bumps, noise and all. It can turn into a sports car when you hit the sport button. For a cab, I'd probably pick the 991, but I would have a hard time picking a base over an S..

I agree that the 991 Cab looks nicer than the 997, they built the roof so the lines are cleaner IMO. If your getting PDK I would probably get the 991, but I would wait until an S model were in my price range.
