W3v3 8-inch Subwoofer Driver (250 W, 4 Ω)
If you need an 8-inch subwoofer that can create outstanding bass in extremely small enclosures, the 8W3v3 will do the job and surprise you with its power and accuracy. It employs the same technologies as its larger diameter brethren to deliver a whopping 0.375 in. (10 mm) of controlled, one-way, linear excursion.
The 8W3v3-4 is best used with amplifier power in the 75W - 250W range and is optimized to operate in a tiny 0.30 cu. ft. (8.5 l) sealed enclosure, or a 0.35 cu. ft. (9.9 l) ported enclosure. Detailed enclosure recommendations can be found in the "Specifications" tab.

"gives you plenty of room for your feet still...."
I'm going to have to disagree. I am 6'2" and the remaining space and required foot position looks miserable. Re-engineering the crappy Bose subwoofer looks like a better idea and that location is marginally useful space anyway.

Why not an upgrade to Bose crap Sub? and using the same placement?
PS. I think the problem for aftermarket stuff for our cars is the fact that most aftermarket components are massive, for whatever reason. I looked into doing something to my car and there was not a way one could add more bass, better speakers, and amp without taking valuable space in this tiny car. I really think if someone comes up with a solution for the back seat, to replace all the Bose Crap, place all equipment within that slot, plus two 8" subs, is the way to go. Key is finding the components that can fit. Until then, I will stick to my crappy audio as I value room in the car.

DRC you guys have done some good stuff, but that footwell looks pretty crowded to me. I think a drop-in replacement for the bose sub would be pretty popular and I bet you have the skills to pull it off.
Make it an upholstered fibreglass box that doesn't weigh too much and that will sell..

A) On occasion .
B) I care about my passengers comfort as well. Having ridden and driven a number of cars with the offset pedals and crappy footwell space I wouldn't subject my passengers to that for something as vain as a bit more bass. Especially when there are surely better options in the factory location.

Bass requires compression of air. So you need speaker cones with large surface areas and high excursion capabilities. This combination requires a large box/enclosure in order to generate low frequencies with low distortion and reasonable sound volume. There are ways to compensate for some of these requirements, but you'll never get loud, high quality bass with a single small driver in a small box. It's just not possible.

so we have modified the stock enclosure for a pioneer 8 inch Shallow Sub TS-SW841D. Worked the best.
I tried the Rockford Shallow, Alpine Shallow and the Kenwood Shallow 8 inch subs and the Pioneer sound the best and has no slap on the transmission hump.
We modified the stock housing and it took about 5 hours to manipulate the stock enclosure and rebuild it to work. we left the factory port and it is a big upgrade over the old 4x6. we powered it up with about 350 watts rms of the back end of an alpine PDX-V9 rated at 500 watts but real power out put metered was 348 watts giving me the recommend power of 350 rms. I would recommend using a 500 watt amp still unless you using a higher end amp company that does 350 rms at 4 ohm
ill upload the photos after lunch

Have you looked at the possibility of squeezing a JL 6W3v3-4 into the stock enclosure? seems to be around the right volume of 4 litres, or do you not think that the drive unit would produce enough output?
