Default michelins getting old

after a 2 hour ride yesterday , autobahn and country roads, I was exhausted! not s much from going fast and having to pay attention so much as, dare I say it, road noise...I am getting old...er, but i'm thinking my tires being 5+ years old and still with plenty of tread are done, more or less...am I right thinking I need new tires? are they drying out and getting noisy? or am I just a woos?

What's the date code on the tires? Soemtimes they even sit at the warehouse for years before you get them. They get loud and dry when they get old.

I replaced mine for the same reason last year; time and not mileage.

You will see a marked improvement with a new set of tires.

I agree that as the age and wear increases, so does the noise. If the noise is taking away from your driving pleasure, it is time for a new set of tires, or turn up the radio volume, or get a great sounding performance exhaust. The latter comment is my recommendation.

the date on the tires is jan/2008, and I have the PSE in the permanent ON position and it does indeed help, though after a couple hours I need a break...

Yep, I think the 5 year mark is pretty good time to let them go. I doubt they're unsafe but I'm dead certain they won't perform as well as a new tire.

I just replaced my PZero's after 2.5 yrs and 14K+ miles with a new set... what a difference in road noise. BTW, I too enjoy the note from my exhaust system but not so much the tire/road noise. I'm with the others here re your issue... a new set of tires should do the trick. MPSS have been getting good reviews if you want to stick with Michelins.

Me too! My '07 C4s was in Scottsdale AZ for it's first 5 years of life. Car had 7k last June when I bought it, and I just replaced the rear tires with MPSS at 12k miles. The rears didn't stick, bounced or skipped if I got on them from a standing start, and were noisy. The rears were also "turning" brown which Tire Rack said is a clear indication they are old, hard, dry, and need to be replaced. And wow, what a difference! Car handles beautifully again (predictable) and so much quieter. And I even went to 325x30x19s as I have the 12"x19" GT3 wheels. Fronts look and feel fine and have lots of tread left. So, go get some new rubber, you won't be sorry!
